Not necessarily.  I use an iPad and paste into a thread here an image code from free picture hosting site, Photobucket after uploading the images to my album.

I've been hosting my pics with photobucket for about 8 years now.  Super easy to upload, super easy to post, you always have access to your photos as long as you have internet access, plus it's free.
