Just kidding.... However I did have a guy say to me that he didn't like how the indicators on his scooter didn't automatically switch off like they did in his car....

Funny.  People pay almost $200 for self cancelers.  The bike I just got has them standard, but I still use the button. 15 seconds is a long time to stay on.

Back in the '80s several bikes came with them, but they disappeared in short order. I had something that had them, some Yamaha, I think. They were a PITA , I just didn't bother using turns signals!

I think the Honda Pacific Coast had a nice system.  Partly based on timeout, partly based on how far the vehicle had traveled.  I think I would find a system that worked on just a timeout to be annoying.  With modern electronics, it should be fairly easy to incorporate a small accelerometer and only start the timeout after the vehicle had started moving continuoulsy.  It may not be cheap though.

My old BMW K75 had a system like that.  If you were stationary, the blinkers would stay on indefinitely.  If you were moving, they'd turn off after about 10 seconds or so.  The other nice thing was that it had emergency flashers too.

Cheers,

Dan K.

It'd be nice to see an accessory like that that could wire to your existing switch.

Yamahas come with one that stays on if you're sitting still, times out at 15 seconds if you're moving.  Like I said, I turn them off myself, but if I forget they'll cancel themselves.  I still have a Sportster with momentary contacts on each side so your flash rate is up to you and your thumb.  That's even more annoying when you're downshifting and braking before a turn.
