The wiring to my headlight (06 Electra AVL) is thin, weak, and full of non-useful resistive connections.  Bare once posted the idea to replace the direct 12 V supply with a relay wired directly to the battery to significantly increase illumination.  The link below is from the magazine Motorcycle Classics that outlines how to do this with relative ease!
