Why are they still putting them on these new bikes?

It's called money, the Manufacturers are going to put on whatever comes from the lowest bidder.

At the rate I'm going I'll die of old age before I wear these Skid Masters out on my 2008 AVL anyway, but I like the looks of the Road Runners.

You may not get to be as old as you think! ;)

The Indian Domestic Market gets an Indian brand of tires, the Avons are just for export models.

They must be some great tire - hard as a rock and wear 50k miles.

I'm pretty sure the Dunlop Speedmaster that came on my 2011 G5 was far from the cheapest tire available.  It was made in England and there is a huge duty tax on everything that is brought into India.

I suspect the reason for the English made tires is they are what the original Bullets used and the style for a 1955 British motorcycle is exactly correct.

In many of my books about motorcycles, the AVON Speedmaster with its circumferential grooves was the tire shown on many of the TT racers bikes. :)

Think of a time when maybe Kevin and CMW will have enough impact on the market and sales where he can say "hey guy's, how about equipping the B5 for the U.S. with something like a K 70?". You never know, it could happen. What do you say Kevin?

Bingo !

The stock Avons were (and are) a respectable street tire while the Dunlop K70's were the AMA specified Class C racing tire.

The modern rubber compounds in the K70 of today makes them stickier than in days of old.
No matter where you go, there, you are.

There were few good tires as in today's performance world. The Avons may have been as good as any. However that doesn't mean they are any good for today's conditions! At lest the K70s have a bit more modern rubber in them. Believe me, if the K70's were the same then as they are now, you wouldn't have seen any Avons on the race tracks! Avon does make some fine tires today, but the Skid Masters ain't them!

My newly acquired C5 is shod with MRF Nylogrip Zappers, 120/80-18 rear, 90/90-19 fronts, made in India. I guess my bike is India spec, which is reflected in the sales price. I have no idea if these tires are good or bad, but they sem to do the job

I'm a firm believer in the Dunlop K70's. The rear wears quickly but it's a result of the sticky tread and in such a narrow tire, stickier is BETTER.
Plus, you can pick them up fairly reasonable, if you look around.
i found gold seal k70's on dennis kirk for $151 front and rear. best price i 've found so far

Did you check Motorcycle Superstore and Bike Bandit for K70s?
