G'day all
Just purchased a restoration project/basket case
The previous owner tells me that it is a 1956 RE Ensign or Prince
Matching engine and frame numbers - 53163 - EI/8372
The frame also has RE4 on it - anyone out there know what I have ?????
Any info would be apreciated.

Hi Trevor,

Welcome to the forum!

Well, you've come to the right place, but I'm afraid I know very little, especially about foreign vintage models  ???. I'm sure someone in the forum will know something and I'll see if I can dig up some advice or information for you when I'm back in the office tomorrow.
What wouldn't you not do if you didn't know you wouldn't fail?

Trevor, welcome to the site. To answer your question, if it is a 1956 it is a Ensign. The prince was not introduced until 1959, and the Lance came out in 1957. A Ensign is a 148cc 2 stroke making about 5.5hp@4750rpm. It is a 3 speed. Have fun restoring. There is something about restoring a old bike that when it fires up can't be described. Resurected history!!!!    Hutch
