Does anyone have much experience with the 500 twin engines?
From a reliablity to preformance point of view.
Its another engine on my doner engine list or possibly to build a new bike.

Living where you are I think I'd stay away from an early 500 twin, getting parts could be a bitch.  ERC

I think that they were the earliest of the twins. As a generality, I think they all got better as time went on and things were sorted/improved over time.
One thing to think about is that twins have two of everything, so they are much more expensive to build. The power level is not much different. And you are stuck with using the special 4-speed gearbox that works with the twins. Can't use the 4-speed or 5-speed gearbox from the Bullet.
These are things to think about.

So youd think a Intercepter twin is stronger overall?

Just tossing options for engine swaps, other plan is doner empty 500 and build that up.

There is absolutely NO comparison between a 500 twin and an Interceptor.  The Interceptor is leagues beyond the performance and quality of the 500 twin.  Also a lot more expensive too.

I just asked because I could get a rebuild a 500 twin engine for cheap.
The twin or fireball is looking around the same price for a engine transplant.
Im egding to twin as there is way more room for preformance and strength.

And what might lead you to the conclusion that the 500 twin has more performance potential?
The Fireball is already very developed. Who is making performance stuff for the 500 twins? It would all have to be developed, like I'm doing for Scottie's 700 twin. That is a considerably more costly project.

Yje 500 twin was a descent motor but they stopped making it for a reason.  The 500 twin was replaced back in 55 and was never made again.  From what I know about the different motors a Fireball will get you WAY more performance AND way more reliability than a 500 twin ever will.

Look, it comes down to practicality in the end.
500 class bikes have similar potential, based on displacement, and the difference would be rpm potential, limited mostly by stroke length and breathing capacity. The twin has some advantage in lighter pistons, but a disadvantage in smaller valve area.

We have major amounts of experience in making these singles very high performance, and the Bullet Whisperer race bike will show tremendous capability for power and rpm in the 500 single.
We also are gaining experience on the twins because we're doing the heads for Scottie's Bonneville 736  Chief twin project. We have developed roller rockers which should work in any of the twins, but we haven't yet verified that to be true for the 500 twin. We can make power in the twins if you want it.
The issue becomes cost. We can do a whole lot more work on one head, for similar or less money than could be done on two heads. So, for a 500 class machine, I consider the choice is clear for the single.
It's simple economics, and if we can give similar power from the single for less money, that pretty much sums it up.

If you want to do a bigger displacement twin like Scottie is doing, such as an Interceptor engine, and build that up, then there is more  power available from the larger displacement twin in that case, and we can use our roller rockers in that, and Scottie can get you the steel con-rods, and such. But it's a lot more money, so you have to wrap your wallet around that before you get started.

When I said twin in my last post I meant 700 or 750!
It does come down to cash in the end, I'll most likely end up fireballing and doner engine. I just like to explore all avenues and I saw a 500 twin for sale here in Australia so it peaked my interest.

I have both a 500 twin and 750 twin motors that I am yet to decide what to do with them.  I have a twin gear box as well.  Hmmm so many choices.  If I only had a rolling frame.
