I usually wear my ipod headphones and listen to some random music like stuff while I ride. A few years ago I downloaded all the sound files from the WMFU radio station site. They were posting an obscure or found MP3 file every day for the year. Its totally random as to what comes up next into my ears while riding. I've actually found myself laughing hysterically as I've been riding.

If you want to check out some of the stuff it can be found at http://www.ubu.com/outsiders/365/index.shtml

Finally found ear plugs that work for me. Have tried many different types but none have worked well or they were uncomfortable.  Came across "The Worlds Finest Natural Ear Plugs" www.earplugsonline.com and they are great.  Comfortable and block the noise well, soft and moldable.

I use these cheap foam ones:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0033YLEGO/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They work very well and are easy to put in, like most foam plugs, where you just roll them up and slip them in before they expand.

*Whoa - Didn't notice the thread was over a year old!

Surprised to see this old thread revived. Since I'm the original poster, I'll just say that I'd tried a pair of rubber plugs with a kind of tiered structure. They fit well and were easy to install but became itchy. The central "trunk" used to poke and irritate my ear.

I got a big cheap bottle of 100 CVS foam plugs for like $6. They work fine but are a bit soft and challenging to put in all the way.

guitars, cars 'n motorcycles.....sounds like the first line of a country tune :) but seriously, what about the personally moulded ones ye can get , like the same is in ear monitors but without the drivers. i've seen em but never used em.

I am testing Skullcandy ear buds and they seem to be working pretty good so far. They are for MP3 players and the like but I don't plug them into anything when riding. Nice job of cutting down noise levels without making me deaf I.E. I can still hear my engine, road traffic and carry on a conversation.

Listening to the Fireball videos with them is an aural treat !

I've used the molded ones for shooting, but haven't worn them while riding.  They do a good job of muffing sudden bangs.  Might get uncomfortable to some who don't like stuff in their ear as they cover a bit outside the ear canal.

I tried the Ipod thing for a few days, then it dawned on me that to hear the music, I had to turn it up loud enough to cut out the wind noise. Seemed kinda nonproductive to me!

LOL.  That'd induce deafness as fast as the noise you're trying to muffle.
