Good day all.  I'm wanting to pull the side inspection plate and adjust the tappets.  I've not been able to identify from my tool selection the proper wrenches to fit the lock nut and adjustment nut.  All wrenches seem to be too thick wall?  Any suggestions locating the proper set would be appreciated.  Have some of you grinded down a couple of your own open end wrenches to achieve the proper thickness or actual thinness?

I just use standard Craftsman and SnapOn combo wrenches.  Some people remove the cover stud from the center to get more room.

You can also buy tappet adjusting wrenches that are made very thin. Or grind down what you have to fit.  ERC

Had not thought about removing the center stud.  Makes sense.  Thanks.

No grinder at home or work.  I'll try and locate tappet wrenches locally.  Thanks.

Some of the dollar stores carry cheap, stamped, sheet metal wrenches.  It's not like  they get used much or need to torque down hard.  Just keep them separate and only use them on the pushrods.

  • Yes, shrubberies are my trade. I am a shrubber.

Hitchcocks sell some 'spanners' that are made for the job.  :)
Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say Ni at will to old ladies. There is a pestilence upon this land, nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design shrubberies are under considerable economic stress in this period in history.

Thanks.  I took the advice to remove the center stud and create more room for my wrench on the top hex and used a miniature channel lock plier for the middle hex.
