So i cut down about 2 inches off the end of my stock exhaust because its too long for parking etc.
I think i notice a difference in the sound and a slight difference in how the engines running. Am i being paranoid or is it possible that this would make a difference?

The length of the pipe TOTALLY effects how the engine will run and perform.  Generally, the longer and more restrictive an exhaust system is, the better the low end torque will be.  As you shorten the pipe and free up the flow within the catalytic converter/muffler, you will start getting more mid range and top end torque.  This is why you see a lot of drag cars that have down turned exhaust that exits before the rear axle, sometimes as short as the back of the doors.  This is to get as much flow as possible at high RPMs.  There is a science to exhaust tuning, but it's all about what you want out of your engine.  For the 2" you cut off, you will probably get a slight increase in your mid range torque, but I don't think 2" is a drastic enough change to have to worry about retuning anything.

i just notice a slight difference in the sound and a slight difference in the torque. Reason for cutting it of wasnt for looks, but for convenience. Theres a lot of severely arced roads here and i use the C5 as a daily work vehicle going to different places every day. I often cover about 120 miles per day and im parking in a different spot about 10 times per day. The longer pipe often hits the curb as it sticks out way past the end of the bike.
I actually think it sounds better and looks better!

So, hacksaw or some mechanical mean to chop it off? I worry about rust from messed up chrome and having it start to peel back.

Saber saw Horton, motorized hacksaw. Took bout 10seconds. There was rust already on that bit of pipe.

Sure is a remarkable difference! Guess I'll do that..! And maybe paint it with high heat flat black. It's blued and rusted anyway....AND I do have a spare! :P

You think it looks alright?  I think so too! Yeah I'm toying with the idea of powder coating the whole exhaust.

The length of the pipe after all the muffler baffling and cat-converter screen is not really having any effect on the exhaust tuning.
I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah, I realized after he posted the pic that it was the "tip" that he cut off.  I don't think anything changed except for the tone.

Keep in mind that most modern mufflers shunt the gasses back and forth through a labyrinth so the effective length the gasses travel is usually more than twice as long as the physical muffler.  Trimming a few inches off that probably wouldn't do much BUT sometimes when you cut the end you make a short circuit from somewhere midway in the path straight out the end.  This can change the sound and lower back pressure.

All that said, people have tried many different mufflers here and many work very well.  I'm sure no matter what you did to the muffler it will still work fine.

This is a squarish exhaust off a Kawi Versys but they do the same kind of thing in cylindrical mufflers.

Ace is right.  2 inches off the end isn't going to make a jet change necessary.  After all the backpressure from the cat and baffles (which are just two perforated pipes, one in - one out) any small change from the drag imposed by those 2 inches is negligible.
