1955 super meteor oil seal

Does anyone know if there is a adapter oil seal available? It's the seal that goes behind the clutch primary case for the 4 speed trans, Hitchcocks is unavailable, an eBay only has it for the 5 speed, so is it the same?

For the '55, it's calling for a
felt
washer/seal that gets sandwiched between 2 steel washers. They didn't start using the rubber seals until '56 or '57 I think.

If you want to you can use the later 4 speed rubber seal and plate for the gearbox shaft. You just have to egg the holes out to fit properly on the inner case. The #s are 111888 plate and seal,144624 for the gasket. The 5 speed won't work it's a bigger seal and will leak. ERC

I had REALLY good results using Meguiar's medium cut metal polish in conjunction with 3M headlight restoration buffing pad. Look in the Vintage category for a thread titled "engine polishing round 2".

Yea it does work good an I've got good results also using it! An at the moment I'm using a firm polishing wheel on my bench grinder an soft metals polish in the round tube for aluminum an other soft metals, man it freakin works great also...but I'm preparing the metal with 800 fine water paper then go to 1000 grit... The results are breath taking, but you gotta be patient an want to do this kind of work to get rewarded

I don't have a bench grinder in my garage, otherwise I would have done the same thing you are doing now. If you find hair line scratches in the finished product you may need to sand to 1500 or even 2000. Just a heads up.
