That's it! They haven't even fixed anything on it!
Doesn't it look totaled? Yeah, good old Progressive pretty much stole it from me!

tell him you are interested.  go look at it.  pick it apart (verbally) and then balk at the "salvage" branded title.

buy it back for 2K.

WTF?  It looks like it's in someone's yard.  Did someone buy it as is and is now trying to sell it at a huge profit?  Sorry Bare, this just adds insult to injury.

unProrgressive , shafted me because I was dumb and didn't check other sources for motorcycle insurance. They would not lower my premiums after I quoted other sources,...very short sited on there behalf, but was well worth paying the equivalent of 6 months premiums  to ditch them and go with Gecko.

I ended up going with Farmer's. I've had them for car insurance for car insurance for 30 years, so I figured I might as well tack this one on. they gave me, by far the best quote. If ya rally want a joke call AAA!  They wanted over $500 for a year, compared to the $188 I got it for. I did call Progressive for grins and they were over $300. I paid them $150 last year for the RE. Not that I would have used them at any price.
The second cheapest I got was from Esurance at $250. I guess the value of the bike makes a lot of difference!

That was 4 years ago when I was so excited to ride my new RE, I didn't call around, just went on USAA recommendation for Progressive. I think progressive insured me for an antique motorcycle, because RE was not in the computer line up. After I figured out what happened ( I was stupid) ,Progresive would not insure me for a lower price, ( RE's are from the 1960s not 2008) ...bla, bla.. fine , I'll quite throwing good money after bad.
Gecko is $ 100 a year, they understand my RE is in a garage more then half the year,...as I tried to explain to the other guys.
Like I said, I was dumb, but not real dumb,....there is a difference.

Sorry to see your bike being sold Bare. Hope you find another soon.

I thought I mentioned that bare's bike had been sold at the auction site.

Whoever bought it has a hell of a lot of nerve to not even bother to fix the scrapes and dents and then ask over $4000 for it.
I'm guessing he didn't pay over a grand for it in its present condition and he got a salvage title in the process.

GOOD NEWS & BAD NEWS. I have heard lots of bad things about progressive-including bad marks for the owners socialist/totalitarian politics. Now they want drivers to have a plug in snitch in their cars...BIG BROTHER WATCHES.
GOOD NEWS:  Look into MARTEL insurance. After HAGERTY classic insurance paid off $6K (agreed value) for my totalled 01 Kawasaki W650, they would not insure my 2010 Enfield, They recommended MARTEL insurance. I was very suprised at the rates, & signed with them.  JUST UNDERSTAND THIS - INSURANCE COMPANYS AREN'T YOUR FRIEND, Gotta approach them with this in mind. They will usually sell a totaled bike back to you for cheap. in my case with the W650, I had already found a 01 Miata to spend the generous $6K on, & let Hagerty have it for that.
Best Wishes, Craig McClure

When my Ducati got totalled (backed over by a little old lady) her insurance was pretty good about things, she had All State.  When the shop manager heard she had All State he was happy, said they are very easy to work with.  They assessed my bike at $4k, I wanted more.  I found 3 comparables in ads and had the shop manager write a letter saying they would sell that bike for $5k.  It took a week longer but they came up to $5k.  I think it was $1250 to buy the bike back if I wanted it.

Progressive offered me the bike back for $900. However, they stole the title and I would have to get a Salvage title. I told them to keep it and I'd get something else.
So I did. And they aren't the insurers. Flo can stick it. She has no taste anyway, she's into Hardleys.

I had a Ford Thunderbird that was totaled by Progressive.  I signed the title over, received my check and went on my way.  Progressive sold the car at auction, the new owner did not receive a salvage title and never transferred the title.  I received calls for months from a tow yard because the vehicle a had been towed and no one claimed it.  By the time they were calling me they didn't even have the car.  The whole deal seemed fishy.

The point of the rant is that the bike might not have a salvage title.

I have Progressive insurance on my G5 too but I don't see a reason to change right now.

Every one of the insurance company's have the same methods and they all will grab your bike if it gets into an accident and has much more than a broken tail light.

It's about 1-1/2 Enfields here. I got to work it out Saturday with the Three Bulleteers reunion. I got most of the wanker stripes off! It usually is quite smooth, there is a very light vibe period at a couple of speeds, but I gotta have something to remind me of the RE.
It certainly doesn't offer the challenge of riding the RE, and it really makes a bit more boring ride. It just does everything and doesn't offer nay....uh ...challenges! Steep hills have become nonexistent, freeway speeds are just another reading on the speedo. 70 MPG as disappeared! And although it does draw a lot of attention, it's not an RE. On the other hand, you don't have to face the challenges every time you ride! But you have definitely lost the uniqueness, and soul! And I doblt that i will ever make nearly as many friends with it as I have with the RE, online or off!

If there's one downfall of the modern retro style Guzzis and Triumphs its that they're too modern under the skin.  I suspect that's what most owners want, a retro look but thoroughly modern otherwise, but it does diminish the overall character a bit.

Even if it's 1972 retro, it is still no comparison to 1955 Brit! There were some staggering improvements in those years! I don't really see anything in the engine compartment that would indicate any major improvement since then. I still have to adjust my rocker box valves! Obviously electronic improvement, but Enfields have that. the racer shocks are updated, but then that only comes on the racer version. And I won't complain about that!
On the other hand, power wise and such, it's pretty 1972.

They may be modern, but they are still cool motorcycles, I ride my Triumph T 100 in the Carpool lane and fast lane, something I would never do with the Enfield, and it is a great ride on the mountain rodes.

Agreed 100%.  I really like both bikes, they're both on my short list for next bike.

Bare, you make me jealous when talking about adjusting valves so easily.  I remember doing the desmodromics on the Monster.  I got really good at it and mine was only a two valve (can't imagine the four), but at times I did long for the easy days of my air cooled VWs where all I needed was a 13mm wrench, a screwdriver, and 10 minutes.
