I can't seem to find horsepower figures for the CB1100. Pretty sure it's more than 27, though. ;-)

I really like it. Sat on one at my local Honda shop.

It is air cooled, which is a little surprising, but may explain the low horsepower (should it actually turn out to be low on power). What I've thought was odd in the past is that the VT750 engines put out so little horsepower. Made me wonder why they bothered with liquid cooling.

The Harley 1200 is only 67.7 hp, and barely more torque (72.9 lbs-ft). 84 and 69 don't seem like bad numbers for an air-cooled inline 4. I don't know what else to compare them to, really.

OK. That does add a perspective. I agree you have a point. I guess I was expecting more....since it's 4 cylinders, revs higher, modern construction, modern combustion chamber design, water cooled etc etc.; which is probably why its 17 more hp. And, thats plenty to do anything you would like short of racing.

Air cooled engines have less power, so comparing it to modern water cooled engines of the same size isn't going to work.  It also looks like Honda went for usability and reliability over all out performance in this bike.

I saw the new Honda CB 1100 in person at my shop and didn't care for it too much. It seemed to have a lot of little plastic bits and pieces all over it.  Also, when fired up it was just as much a "sewing machine" as the 2007 Bonneville and 2010 Scrambler i onced owned. But, I'm sure it'll be nice and dependable, as all Hondas are, which is certainly worth something.
