Ok I have a 1955 super meteor that has a really fine running motor, then this issue with the oil building up in crank case started...so I noticed the return pump started building pressure an pushing oil out the end cap, plus the return tube in the oil fill neck has no oil coming out when engine runs :/ So I did a complete oil pump rebuild an plus new oil filter an components,an I cleaned all oil passages in the timing cover, an now I still have the same problem... So can it be that there is a blockage in the return tube, or in the engine block its self? I have went over the oil discs to make sure they are the proper ones,an that they are in correct... So does anyone have a helpful input as of what the problem may be, or what direction to go in next?

Have you tried blasting compressed air through the oil passages?  I just did a oil change on my forks last night and there was chucks of crud in there and I had to use my blow gun in the top of the fork tube to get all the chunks out and to get everything to drain.  Depending on how long the bike sat with oil, it's possible there was sludge and grime that could have clogged any one of the passages.

Well I guess that's my next move then, I have done the timing cover, but not the engine block, was maybe thinking of using some kind of wire, an trying to get it through one of the passages... Thanks Scottie.

You could try using some guitar strings to clean the passages too.  They're long, flexible and cheap.

I have essentially the same bike as you, and I knew absolutely nothing about it until I joined this forum.  I've been having different problems getting my bike going, I was having ignition/timing issues, but I'm pretty close to having everything sorted out now.  Aside from pissing oil on everything everywhere I go on it.    ;)   I wish I knew more about the oiling system, but mine is working fine so I haven't had to worry about it.  I do know it's dinosaur technology and there isn't much to these motors at all.  Good luck with this.

Thanks Scottie, it has been fun so far I do enjoy working on things, I have to say though this is a different breed lol from what I'm use to, I just figured the oil pump would have enough pressure to keep oil flow, I mean since it has enough to blow out the end cap...I will gut this motor to find the issue, thanks again buddy   ???

Well got the engine back apart, but can't get to the oil return tube, its plugged up bad...cant get air to go through it... But did get air to go through oil ports on engine block, but the strainge thing is that you can blow air through the oil port where timing cover goes an hear air blowing back in the tank   :-\ so I thought that the only way the oil port was supposed to be open to the oil tank was through the return oil tube? But I can make air go into it by blowing through the oil pump port where timing cover goes, but can't get any type of wire down the tube or any brake cleaner...even tried SEA FOAM nothing so I'm at a stand still scratching my head  ???

Did you take all the small screws or bolts out of the front and bottom of the engine block where the timing cover bolts on?  Remove them and blow air through them. They all should have air come out of a passage somewhere else on the block.  ERC

ERC...Yes I removed all of them, I have air coming out of them, I was wondering if that oil return tube that comes out of the fill spout is only a one way flow, should I be able to blow air back through the return tube? All the other oil guides seem to be clear, just this one problem.. :-\ ....thanks you ERC

The tube is not one way but there is a relief valve that may stop it in one direction. If I remember the early ones have two valves. I'll check when I go home for lunch on one of the ones I have on the bench to see what blows in and out of that passage.  ERC

The two bolts or screws with the gasket that are on thefront of the case. The bigger one goes directly to the return tube. blow air in that one, should be free both ways. There is also a screw that is right next to the big drain plug set in ahole that goes to the crank sump that allos the oil to be picked up by the return pump. I think I would unscrew that and blow some air in that.  ERC

You can, I'd do that and blow about 90lb of air through it. Along with some CRC electronic cleaner. The stuff melts grease and evaporates fast.  ERC

ERC...I'm going to keep trying to put some crc Electra cleaner in the tube an try to get it open...cause I hate to split the case just cause of that, that little piece that the tube goes into, what is it called? I can't find it on the computer... Do you know of a good service manual or CD for this motor I can buy that has good info an detail??

Is yours an early one where the oil filter screws into the side of the case below the fill and that has a kit to change it where the filter is in the timing chain cover? Or does it look like the picture i'll add, if it's like the picture the tube just mounts to the case on the inside. The manuals are all over Ebay, also if you put Royal Enfield service manual in google if you search enough you'll find one to download for a 700. They're all just reprints of original manuals. Have you looked at the parts diagrams on Hitchcocks site. They can be really helpfull.

ERC...the one I'm working on is a 1955 super meteor,an the oil filter is in the timing cover below a plug an has a separate oil fill neck with a return tube
Inside, an that tube goes down into the side of the engine casing...I have tried for two days to unplug this oilway it is clogged in the little round thing in the side of the case, it comes apart, but u have to slit the block:( I would post pics but don't know how  ::)

Does your motor look like the one in the picture? With the tube coming out where the oil fill neck bolts on.  ERC

It has the bolt on oil fill neck yes... But down on the side of motor below where the neck bolts on there is a round thing that goes in the side of the motor that the little metal return oil tube comes from.

I see what you have, originally the 4" filter fit in there and you'd take that off to access the filter. You also have a timing cover that has a filter in it. I have a brand new crankcase like that I think they made some way of eliminating the filter in the crankcase and just using the filter in the timing cover. It could be the filter is still in there and it's clogged. Let me check the pieces I have before you remove that big nut. Here's a picture of what it looks like.  ERC

ERC... I can see down inside the tank, It has a lock nut on the inside, but no way to take it off from the outside  :-\ everything in timing cover is new all components including oil filter.

ERC... Here is what I found, this is what it looks like so I don't know if there is a way to unplug it, cause if air won't go through it oil isn't either....

Here's a picture of the pieces that I have. I bought these to put on my 54 which came with the filter. Got these to eliminate the filter there. I wonder if you could bend one of those ratchet wrenches to fit inside the oil fill opening. Because the nut is inside of the case to tighten it. Maybe you could just loosen it so you could eyeball it and clean it out. When I go home tonight I'll try to assemble it from the outside of the case. Before you mess with it wait till you hear from me that I could do it. Other than that the case will have to come apart.    ERC

ERC...that's it, I was thinking of doing that but the metal tube is right in the way, I can just barely see the nut inside...wow that's great! I really appreciate your help... I do think its possible to get it loose enough to get air to go through...what size is the nut? So maybe if it works for you I will round up a wrench  ;D ;D

I did it, put the complete assy. in place slipping it through oil fill hole. I didn't make up a wrench to tighten it. That could be tricky but not impossible. The nut is a locknut on the new assy. I have. The size of the nut is 3/8 BS, but a 15mm fits perfect. I'd get a couple of cheap ones and practice bending them to get it to fit. I'm positive it can be done with some patience. Here's a picture of the finished job minus tightening the nut.   ERC

It's a 1954 and brand new. I rarely sell anything. Maybe when I'm forced into a nursing home. :P  Good luck I really think you can do it your only other option is a complete teardown.    ERC

It had many years of build up in it, but all is clear now  ;D thanks to a 15mm floppy ratchet wrench, an your pointers ERC it all came apart.. Plus I had to take some stainless cable on a drill an run it through the oil ports to clean them out...them a little air an spray cleaner all is good now  8)

That's great, the clutch friction disc is rivited on. If it's not badly worn leave it in place other than that drill the rivets out to remove it.  ERC

ERC... The seal behind the clutch an the seal behind the stater need replaced, so does the big nut on the crank have reverse threads? Was hoping I could take a puller an take the back of clutch out to change seal... ???

The nut is right hand thread. You just remove clutch basket, stator, chain the whole assemblies. If the inner primary is original it will have felt seals in there. When you install the engine sprocket be carefull you don't pinch the felt between the sprocket and crank.  ERC

Ok thank you so much ERC...I'm down to the big nut an it looks like someone tried to take it off before cause it has chisel marks on it, but I think a socket will still go on it...just hope the 1/2 inch impact with 3/4 socket adapter will take it off  ??? I'm trying to deal with
Nfieldgear.com on the parts, but the number plate is gone from this bike an I don't know what to use to look up my parts...so I emailed them about it, but no response yet.
