After looking at the different options for flyscreens I decided to take a stab at making my own. I really like the Hitchcock's flyscreen but I'm not ready to cough up $125 just yet. I figure if I can make a decent knock off it will at least let me see if I like the look (I have no preconceived notions of this working as a windshield, its just for show).  I had a snap on modular face shield that I'm not using so I used that for the base. I really like the look. I'm going to give it a week to settle in then if I still like it I'll order the real deal.

Thanks! I really like the size and shape. I just need to work on the finishings. If I can get it cleaned up I'll keep it.

stylish at least. Interested in how they work out.

I also like the handlebars. Where did you find them?

Thanks guys, the bars are some cheapos from Moose Racing. They are the Euro motocross bars and you can pick them up for $25-$30. I love them, I've had them on 3 of my last 4 bikes.

I decided I'm going to try to keep the flyscreen so I took it off and started upgrading it.  I didn't like how it fit around the headlight ring so I cut a notch out there. I also wanted it to be removable and easy to do so.  I ended up using nylon straps off of an old back pack, along with the buckles. The straps feed around the fork tubes and it buckles near the head tube on the left side. I also added two straps down the front that snake in between the two headlight rings. They then wrap back around the head tube under the yoke and those also buckle.  It fits very tightly and doesn't seem to budge at 50mph.

This was 100% free for me but could easily be copied for $20.

Nice one! Does it make much difference to the wind at speed? Winters approaching down here ,I'm thinking it might be nice to have something to hide behind.

I was fully prepared to say it provides no function at all, but after a couple rides it does seem to take some pressure off of my chest. I think if I had clubmans I'd be able to tuck down and see a big change in pressure.

That's what I've found with fly screens, they move the wind pressure from hitting you in the stomach to hitting you in the upper chest.  I like that because it still leaves my head in a clean air stream, quiet with no buffeting.

My Hitchcock's flyscreen was wonderful. It moved the airflow up to hit me right under the chin with clubman's. I also saw a definite increase in top speed. I had it indicating 91 on run, far higher than the previous high of 84. I wouldn't have another RE without a flyscreen!

So I think I'm finally done with the flyscreen haha. I can never leave anything alone. I took it off today to spray it with lens tint, wrapped the edges in rubber edging and reworked the mounting system. I think it looks cleaner. Tomorrow my new muffler and front fender arrives then Wednesday I should have a new front tire. Good week for the bike!
