I've read a handful of topics regarding muffler swaps and I've seen several photos of EFI's with chopped exhausts, but I haven't really seen a qualified answer about doing anything other than direct swaps. I'm looking to shorten the header on my G5 4-6" and use a shorty muffler. I have the EFI muffler from Hitchcocks now, but it's still too big for me. This is my first Enfield, and my first modern bike, so I'm a little scared to start messing with the lungs. I've build a couple unit triumphs and too many Honda 4's and I'm very comfortable working with a carb, but this EFI has me spooked. Any advise? I bought the bike for its reliability so I don't want to do anything that is going to give me rough starts or inconsistent idles, but I'm addicted to chopping bikes up.

I completely removed my muffler, added a tail pipe extension, and inserted serted an inline baffle. Other than a little popping on deacceleration bike runs fine and rpms rise faster. THe stock ECU is pretty good at adjusting for changes (within limits).

Im sure others will chime in, but i havent had issues

That seems to be the answer I keep coming back to. I get popping with my EFI muffler, I dig it. So that's not a problem. I guess what it comes down to is just going for it and hoping for the best. If all else fails I'll pick up a new header and go back to where I am now. At least parts for these are readily available and fairly inexpensive.

Thanks!

I guess if you call £70.00 ($106.89) + postage from England inexpensive, your right.

Not cheap, but it's easier than looking through a pile of parts in some guys barn, only to find a rusted, dented header that I have to have re-chromed. I'll take ~$150 for a brand new pipe any day. That actually seems like one of the more inexpensive replacement parts. I was just looking at 18t sprockets and $90 is crazy.

Marty at GOMOTO in Minneapolis can probably fix you up for less than that.

I just got a new set of sprockets for my C5.  I think the rear was $75 and the front was $60, but thet gave me a $10 break since that seemed like too much to both of us.  MotoCorsa in Portland, OR
