Finally, a problem!

Low beam burned out at 1,990 miles. I double checked and there is power so its not a wiring issue.

Is that too soon for a headlight from India? Do we know if it's covered under the warranty?

Or is this my excuse for buying the 7" kit!

Thoughts?

You might as well get the 7" kit because unfortunately, lamps aren't covered in the warranty. Electrical is excluded.

If you just need something to get by for a bit get the same size automotive sealed beam halogen for about $10.  There's a tab that won't line up (Moto bulbs have different tabs) but you can clamp it in just fine.  And it will be way better than stock.

Go 7" they are vastly superior to the 5 3/4" stock unit, seriously there is no comparison.

Automotive 5 3/4" head lights are for four headlamp systems and come in two variety's; single filament high beam only and dual filament High/Low.

The single filament high beam is obviously not useable for our purposes. We would think the dual filament Hi/Lo would be but the hot lick but such is not the case.

In the Hi/lo bulb the brighter of the two filaments is the low beam.

There used to be a 5 3/4' bulb that had our desired specs #4473 but it is no longer produced.

My advice is to order a 7" and grab a replacement 5 3/4 from your R.E. dealer to tide you over till it arrives.
No matter where you go, there, you are.

Good to know. I do like the look of the 7".

considering all the bikes i've owned, only had 1 headlight failure. of course it was on a windy mountain road, dark as hell. honda cb450, and i seem to remember using a car sealed beam which couldn't have cost more than 4-5 bucks.

I should say I heartily agree, 7" is totally the way to go.  But it's over $100 and you need to order it.  Get a 5 3/4" auto to tide you over ;)

All you need t0 find is the inner adapter ring. The 7" outer ring that holds the headlight is available a lot of places for about $25.00 or less. A sealed beam headlight is less than $15.00. and you need the W clips, about $2.00 apiece. You should be able to get the ring from Nfield Gear or Hitchcocks.

Has anyone tried the inner and outer rings from India that can be found on eBay? It looks like you can pick a set up with W clips for $25-$30 delivered... It might be worth checking out if you're like me and can't stomach the idea of paying $90. Especially when I can pick up an entire Honda headlight unit brand new for $40-$50 bucket and rings...

I have seen those. The chrome can be a bit flaky, but they'll work.

I'm puzzled.  ???
All Bullets (from B through G) in Europe come with a 7" headlight.
Wonder why US would be serviced with a 5.75"? How about Canada?

I'm guessing US DOT  requires adjustable beam.

the US requires a headlight to be adjustable. The 7 inchers aren't. The 5.75" inchers have screwdriver holes in the front of the frame so you can adjust them. Doesn't necessarily you can get them adjusted right, mine wouldn't.
Don't know about the rest of the countries.
