Hey Everyone,

I did a search of the forum and found that the rear axle nut is 30mm. Or 31 according to another guy. This was in the "classic" bike section, though.

What is the axle nut size for the UCE? I need to order some sockets before I come home from Harbor Freight.

Thanks.

Their large Metric Sockets set runs from 19mm-50mm. You will find everything you need in that set. I think it's on sale for about $58.00. It's a 3/4 drive and include a ratchet and breaker bar. If you grab the 20% off coupon out of a Cycle World or Motorcyclist magazine, they may honor it. They did on mine. The set was on sale last year for $25.00. It cost me $20. A 30mm socket by itself will probably be $25.00

unless you're ever contemplating the removal of old VW axle nuts, imho 3/4" drive sockets seem like overkill for our bikes. just sayin'.

Why would the bike care if it's 1/4" or 3/4"? It's not like you can't get an adapter to take them down to 1/2" or even 3/8" if you are so tempted. And since the ratchet and breaker is included, why not use them? And who says they are only going to be used on an RE?  When you got to that 47mm sprocket nut, you might be glad you have something that's almost big enough to break it loose. I used my fork tube extension to got my sprocket nut off! At least, I asn't worried about breaking a tool.
I've found the set pretty handy, actually.

my concern is the socket's physical dimensions i.e. the opening chamfer. the nut's flats are not very wide and may tend to round over the edges. a 1/2" socket would provide a more secure purchase, having less chamfer. as to the primary sprocket nut, my ingersoll rand impact zips it right off.

Exactly!  I have a really nice Stanley adjustable wrench that I've used on every axle of every bike I've had in the last 6 years.

took some pretty fancy positioning to get a crescent onto the axle and brake backing plate nut on my bike. I don't even think I got it to work.

Was that after you installed the aftermarket wheel adjusters?

I was just complaining about not having a 30 mm wrench in the stock tool kit in another thread.
I have a very complete socket set, but due to my upswept sporty exhaust, there is no room for a socket & handle.  I purchased an offset box end 30mm from GRAINGER for $6.95 .  Just the thing for my needs.

I need to get me a giant crescent for when I travel.  I think you need an 18mm wrench for the backing plate though, that's a tight spot.

Nah, it was mostly the brake arm, rod, and muffler setup, especially after I put the upswept on it. I could get straight in to the the nuts, but from the side was not gonna work. The front chain sprocket nut was also wasn't going to work with any other wrench than a socket. I could get a wrench on it at a bit of an angle, but it wasn't going to handle the torque.
A socket was, by far, the best tool for the job.

After adjusting my chain yesterday, I like my GRAINGER $6.95 30mm offset boxend wrench even better. It will fit over the axle nut, onto the stub axle. This allows some tension to be kept on the axle nut,so the snail adjusters dont move unless you want them to, & makes the the ticklish wheel alignment/chain adjustment much easier.
I also found that my Brake plate anchor nut is NOT METRIC or SAE  -- it is WHITWORTH. Did Enfield use old stock assembling these 2010 G5 Deluxe bikes ??? It appears to be the original from the factory.  Wierd

I've found them on mine (E5, 2010) too on footpeg and engine mounting bolts. Don't know about size, found a nut that fitted and counted my blessings.  ;D
