I finally got the project done!
Military C5 with D&D Exhaust, bullet turn signals, pillon seat, 7" headlight.

They put the stick on type weights to balance the tires, i dont really like the look, they look cheap. im going to have to figure out the spoke ones or figure out something different...

Nice. Every thing looks like it belongs together.

What tires are those?

You can look at the wheel weight and it might say how many grams or ounces it is on it. Or you could take it off and weigh it.
Then, get an equal weight amount of lead electrical solder, and wrap it around the spoke nipple where you took off the wheel weight.

Hansel - love the look of those aggressive tires... very appropriate with the military paint job!

How visible are those rear bullet turn signals "close-mounted" to the housing?  I don't think I've seen anyone mount them exactly that way.  Does the housing block them from view at an angle?  Do you have a photo from the back?

Immaculate bike.  8)
Don't worry about those weights: for a military it should be function over form to be cool.
Interested in the knobbies. Would appreciate an evaluation on handling on the paved in dry and wet; and in the longer run durability.
Nice rides!   ;D

Those are actually trials tires that leave a lot more tread on the ground than Knobbies. They are better on the street than knobbies and are pretty decent out there. Decent rain tires, but the rubber (brand) can make some significant difference in traction. Unfortunately, I haven't run any of those in probably 40 years, so I can't really say what the best/worst ones are. I used to use Dunlops, but I don't know whether they still make them or not.

They are visible. I really want to get rid of all the turn signals as they arent required in Washington. I like a simple look.

Trial/enduro tyres befit a Bullet and especially a military looks wanting without them. Picture might mislead me, they resemble more the MX tyres as made by Maxxis, Kenda or Mitas.
Still befitting the motorcycle; as I started: immaculate bike.  :D

I dont know why but even the lower profile turn signals put me off. So i am going to:
Make the front pilot lights the turn signals, adding amber LEDs.
And for the rear i got some small round Amber LEDs that i think will match better.(http://www.lockhartphillipsusa.com/LP-USA-SPORTBIKE-DOT-LED-TURN-SIGNAL-AMBER-LENS.html)

Then i know i need a flasher kit and possibly a diode kit like this? http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/kuryakyn-diode-kit-for-metric-bikes-each/part/KY-4709

Diode kit from superbrightleds.com:

http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/flashers-load-resistors/metric-bike-diode-kit/1190/

$2.29.  Plus shipping, so if you're buying from them anyway...

I was wondering, if Washington doesn't require turn signals, can you get in trouble if you ride into a state that does require them?  I'm pretty sure that helmet laws must be followed if you enter a state that requires them.

(The helmet law bashers around here claim economic detriment because riders turn around when the reach a "helmet" state line, rather than come spend money.  Still not sure how I feel about a helmet law, but I do think that a if a state has no helmet law, there should be mandatory organ doner participation  ;) )

If you don't like the look of the stick-on wheel weights, do what I have done on the Morgan 3-wheeler I use to have.  I got the stick-on strips (1/4 oz per section)  stick them on aluminum foil, warm the weight side on a warm electric stove eye, then peal off foil and it removes adhesive from the warm weight.  paint weights to match wheel rim and adhere where needed with RTV silicone.
Painted with the same paint, they disappear.   On the 3-wheeler and my Plus-8, I used a bubble balancer I made.  On the bike, I have never bothered to balance.  I am not sure how I would go about it other than trial and error, remove wheel from bike, fit an axle and put it on knife edges and tape weight to light side.  GA-DK

Nicely done bro, I like the way you add an bullet turn signals....I plan to get mine soon, but the rear view seem its bit hid behind the registration number. Maybe install it on the rear fender strut, would be better. 7" headlight? I never notice any difference with the stock one. How is the sound of D&D exhaust?

I feel your pain  ;D

Really, I am eagerly hunting and gathering information for a set trail/enduro that will actually work in the real world.
Especially hard for the front tyre. Only the Pirelli MT90 scorpion (54.81 euro) has the exact size, but at that prize probably not long lasting. More choice for the rear. There I'd hesitate between Bridgestone Battlewing BW501 (84.81eur) and Heidenau K60 M+S (74.86eur) depending on the conditions in the intended region.

Choices and Decisions. Some nuts  ::)

I had a set of Bridgestone Trailwings on my Triumph Scrambler. Perfectly awful tires. I found nothing good about them.
Shrinkos seem to get some pretty good press, but I'm still leery. Motorcycle Superstore and Bike Bandit are a couple of pretty good places to find tires.

Ask Bill Harris what's on the Harris scrambler right at the moment.
He used to run the crap out of Pirelli's Rallycross tires but he's putting something else through the paces right now.
I forget what make they are but they are more trials like than the Pirelli's were.

We have Kenda K270 on the Hooligan bike. They are a pretty decent tire.
The tread pattern is more aggressive than the Dunlop K70 and I suspect that ours may be of a somewhat harder compound than Dunlaps as well.

Fore certain they are more gripy in the slick than the SM MkII.
No matter where you go, there, you are.

I've read nothing but bad reviews about the Bridgestone Trailwings.  I ran Shinko enduros on my '83 Suzuki GS550.  I had the 700 series on the rear and I think it was 244 series on the front.  Seems like ALL Shinkos are a little loose for the first 50 miles but once they're scrubbed in they handle great and hold up for many miles.  In fact, I did SEVERAL burnouts on that Shinko 700 and I never did run out of tread!    ;D

I'm going to run the Shinko 705 front and rear on my Trailblazer.  It's a super moto style tire with a really deep cut V tread.  It has great reviews for dry, wet, cornering and dirt riding conditions.

They don't have the exact size, but they do have tires that will work.  For the 705s I'm going to be running a 110/80-19 on the front and a 120/80-18 on the rear.  A little shorter over the original tires, but nothing drastic.

Just got the amber LEDs for the pilot lights, i ordered pilot amber lenses from ebay and ordered a diode kit and flasher so that should take care of the front.

For the rear i got some of these:

will put them on the bike to look like this:

Man i cant wait till this is done, i love just getting things down as simple as possible.

Alright made it through the pilot light to turn signal wiring (easy), diode wiring (easy, thanks to the thread on here and Gremlin!), LED flasher (easy) and then the LEDs for the turn signals.

Here are some (bad cell phone) pics to show some of the lighting:
pic in the dark

So, the only issue i ran into was over torquing the leds on the back. i pulled the mounting bolt out of the plastic, i didnt even wrench that hard. so im going to glue those and use them as spares and ordered some new ones, which i will use loctite on. This will also give me a chance to fix my measurements- since the lights, though measured twice, are off (just slightly... but i notice).

I really really like the look, the rear blinkers now match the tail light (did LED replacement on that bulb too), and they look like they belong. I also like not looking down and seeing chrome signals on my forks! Simple is nice, less is more. I have amber lenses on the way for the pilots, will see how they look and post when they get here!

Very nicely done. However, not sure about the front indication in the pilot lights. They might not be visible to some motorists at certain angles? (Of course not looking from the back or 200º etc  8)) The headlight might overcome the pilot light signals, but! having LEDs in my pilot lights as well, I hope it wouldn't be a problem.

Don't get me wrong, you have some very unique touches to your RE going on there  :D

That exhaust is the D&D full system.

Bike looks great!  Time to black out the headlight ring and the fork lowers.  Maybe try some Plasti-Dip in case you don't like the outcome.

I forget who, but someone here is a powder coated and blacked out pretty much every shiny bit on their military not long ago, looked awesome!

So the LED turn signals i had on the back were really bugging me (first world problems). I did not like how the LEDs showed through the lens, it just didnt fit the classic look of the bike. So after many hours on the internet i found a solution that is exactly what i envisioned from the start.
while they are still LEDs, the lens matches the taillight, and you can not see the actual LED through the lens. With the rubber grommet it now matches perfectly..

I have plans this winter of dechroming most of the bike...
Seat springs and shocks (new hagons) handlebars and  will be black.
Engine covers will be color matched powder coat in olive drab and hopefully that little wing logo on there will be black.
Headlight ring and all other chrome is going to be turned into satin chrome, the plater near my house said he could do it no problem. I dont want to completely black her out...
Question for you guys: Should i plate or paint the bottom fork legs or leave them as is?
I wish i knew how to use photoshop, right now its just my imagination doing the work...

Does that guard have enough clearance for the oil drain plug and pump inlet casting?

Looks like it could be in the way.

Yes, I'd like to know that too. Would be a real hassle to take it off at every change.

Here is another pic, according to them the rear most hole will allow you to drain the oil, as it was a concern of mine. I will let you know as soon as it gets here!

either way its only a couple bolts so it really wouldnt be that bad if i had to take it off every time...

Alright, mail from England comes fast!

Got the skid installed, its thick and burly and fits perfectly. Install was slightly painful due to the clearances around the mounts but when its on its pretty low profile. it stops just before the main drain plug on the underside of the engine, so that is clear for oil changes. it does cover that secondary drain though, but i never use that one anyway. Here she is:

If it doesn't line up to let a socket in, surely you own a holesaw, jigsaw, Greenlee hole punch, or Dremel tool.

The skid plate doesnt cover the drain plug- so no need!

Fine, thanks for the pics too.
Are you sure it's the same bike from post #54 and not one from the showroom?  ;D
