I've set out on an epic (for me) 3-day triangle ride and made it safely through the Day 1 portion:
Day 1 (early today): NYC to Philadelphia, ~100 mi (done!)
Day 2 (tomorrow morning): Philadelphia to DC, ~150 mi
Day 3 (Wednesday afternoon): DC to NYC, ~250 mi
Day 1 report (NYC to Philadelphia): Beautiful weather (45-65 degrees). Left at 8:20, made it 105 miles in 3 hours including 3 extended stops to stretch legs and refuel. The ride over the Ben Franklin Bridge at 11am was glorious.
Route:
Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, Outerbridge Crossing
NJ Turnpike to exit 7
Cut over to I-295 (mostly because the roadbed is better)
295 to NJ 70 to NJ 38 (or the other way around, I forget) to the Ben Franklin Bridge
I did the highway portion mostly at 55-60mph, with some stretches of almost 70. Beautiful day, no trouble at all. The worst problem at the high speeds is the wind effect on my body and head -- I need a windscreen.
Installed a RAM iPhone mount on Sunday for GPS and it was helpful, though the glare makes the screen hard to see.
