Headlight power

How many watts, max, can a headlight be rated for and the electrical system keep up with it?  I'm running a 500cc classic, 2003, with the 4-wire stator and points. 

I know old Honda's (where I came from) can have big problems if you put an over-rated bulb on them.

55w/45w seems to work okay.
