Hi,
I've got RE 500cc AVL and I've put on VM34 Mikuni round slide carb.  Purchased from "Chopper Conpany"?? They sent a great set of carb, air cleaner, and 3 jets.  Their advert says that "jets for the 500 Electra are includedf"

Yeh, OK.  I am running the nice conical filter that they suppy(a good one!)

However, bike runs RICHHHHH.  I can foul plugs in 10 minutes to the point of NO Workie.
Does anyone out there run 500 cc AVL, mikuni VM34, conical filter, AND Goldstar exhaust(no baffle) system?

I just want to know their ideas.experience on main jet size.  I hate spending $$ for lots of extra jets to "play" with. Even tho this is good play, for sure!!

Will probably experiment first with soldering up a jet and drilling new, smaller jet hole, "like in the Olden Days".

Have you tried different needle positions or adjusting the air screw?

Some of our Indian friends have used this carb on the 500 AVL Machismo, have a look through the previous posts and see if they'e listed their set-up.

Regards,

A.

Try a 30 pilot and a 190 main.
I don't know what the needle jet is in it, so if you tell us, we might be able to tell you which way to go with that.

Ace.Cafe,

Those sound awfully rich still.  I installed a 42mm Mikuni square-side slide carb on my classic Mini with a 1310cc engine and have a 25 pilot jet, 180 main jet and Y6 needle jet in it and am running slightly rich still.

The metering numbers may be different for the two series of carbs and thus an "apples to oranges" thing.

There used to be a thread titled "successful carb settings" that was chock full of useful settings data.

Sadly it did not survive the  forum update.

You might give a shout here and in a few other sections of the forum for someone to post a copy.
Somebody had to have saved it to hard drive ( I hope )

I have been using VM34 from past 1 year or maybe more and here are my jet specs

220 mainjet - Hex ones
27.5, 30 pilot
159-N8 needle

I think I will try smaller mains in the near future but for now its all good in here. No sign of over-riching.

Also, the needle is on the 3rd notch.
