Looks beautiful!  Alas, too much like polishing the pipes in the head in boot camp for me.  Left a lasting emotional scar.  I'm going to repaint mine OD.  Looks like plastic, but it's how it came anyway.  :-X

thanks for the tips! I started off with 400 wet sanding>hope that wasnt too aggresive..but there is deep black pitting/oxidation? that will not come out with all the cleaning i've tried
This post was very helpful thanx, will try to post pics too!

If you started with 400 you will need to sand with 600 before you go to 800 and so on.

The best polish I have used very successfully has be a product made in Germany and available in the US is
"SimiChrome" just amazing on the aluminum engine covers and the fork legs as well. It's available on Amazon..a bit pricey but does the job without 90% of the Labor/Elbow grease.  :)

Simichrome for chrome and Meguiar's for paint were the stuff back in the 60's and '70s.

I may have to give this Simichrome a try.  Where do you buy it from?

I've got some tubes still left from years ago. I would think Ebay if they don't have it in parts stores anymore.  ERC
