Seems like a neat bike.  Suzuki has it's TU250 in the States but I think that's it from the big four for this style.  UK still has the W800, I believe.

Cycle World magazine recently reported spotting an SR400 on manufacturers' plates in Southern California; a suggestion that the bike could be under appraisal in the American market. If that were to happen a European version could well be on the cards as well, particularly with the expected increase in demand for lower-powered bikes under the new A2 licence bracket that now applies throughout Europe. In Japan, it costs around £4k including taxes.

Seems like the old SR500 was a single with 2 exhausts coming from the jug, very unusual.  I could be wrong.

That was the GB500. It wasa 4-valve so they gave each exhaust port a pipe. The SR500 only had 2 valves and 1 pipe.
The SR 400 and SR 500 were very close relatives. The 400s were kept mainly in Asia, but there were those that made it to Europe. I'm assuming it was for size restrictions placed on beginning riders. I'm pretty sure the SR400s have been in production since the '70s.

Great bike! My brother and I have a 79 SR 500F. We found it in a bike salvage yard in 1990. Picked it up for next to nothing, restored it and never had any problems with it. Next to the Bullet, it's my favorite bike to ride. Motor is unbreakable  . cochi

Ehh.  Not impressed.  I'm sure it's a great bike, but the styling really doesn't grab my attention.  It looks like every other Japanese bike from the 70's.  Just too plain for me.  And being that it's only a 400, I'm sure it's a slouch.

the srx 6 was595cc in the us.i think it was 610cc in europe and has dual headpipes  , and was imported only one year.

I don't recall SR-400s ever being sold in the states. I did have an '80 SR-500 that I ended up trading for a TT-500. Both were a lot of fun.
