Hi
I have a classic 500 and am thinking to buy a detachable pillion pad (eg"phantom pad") that uses suction pads. This would allow me to retain the great aesthetics of the classic and allow pillion riders as necessary (am thinking of short trips around town, school runs etc.).
Anyone have any experience of these?
Are they safe?
They are offered in 3 sizes: 6", 7" or 9" wide. Which would be the best fir for my classic 500 rear mudguard?
Thanks

I would think you would want you passenger to have more security than suction cups holding their seat in place while riding.   :o

There are a couple available that double as a rear carrier with removable pad:

(Third one down this second page.)

These would provide a more secure/stable seat for your passenger.

Mine is 6" wide, with 8 suction cups and it rides great. My girl says it's comfy and it stays on secure.

Note: remove your suction cup pillion at night. If it gets cold, the cups harden and won't stick. Then it'll fall off if no one is sitting on them. I lost mine a couple days ago during a morning ride. Oops. Searching for a decent retro (bolt-on) replacement.
