Well i thought I'd give the plasti-dip another go. This time straight from the can and with good results. Although I'm not finished yet and more photos to come. this will give you an idea of what a maroon bike looks like with a bit of black out paint.
Remember - no damage to the original paint work and when you have had enough of your new look you can just grab an edge and peel it off.
I think the matte black looks pretty good but open as always to opinions.

More to come!!!

Nothing wrong with the maroon either, but I must admit the matte black appearance gives it a very unique look in itself.  ;D

Maybe because I have a B5  :D Love your work, keep 'em coming.

I like it. Very clean lines too. I want to do just my wheels for a different look, but I wonder if the plasti-dip would adhere to the spokes.  I've yet to any images on the web of this.

If your in the usa the home of plastidip - you can buy it through ebay . Just type in plasti dip and its about $10 a can. once it get to down under the price rises and its about $25 a can and another $15 postage.
Several difference colours so check it out

gave the side stand a coating. This time is quick dry enamel paint

I like the black side stand - I might just paint mine, too.

What did you paint the exhaust pipe with?

And you say that you can peel ths stuff right off the original paint you painted over without damage or issue to the underlying coatings?

Did you sand or scuff the pipe before you painted it?

scott- i only wiped down the exhaust pipe and side stand with a grease and wax remover.
don;t know how long it will last as i didn't want to damage the chrome finish.

cheifharlock
just like i did it to this one lol so you have nothing to worry about. remember this.
1. don't use the plasti dip primer or any other primer or you won't get the stuff back off without damage to the paint.
2. clean the area - mask up and spray it on

That's unreal. I picked up two cans of the stuff from Home Depot about a month ago and now I am motivated to try it out.

I want to mask the spokes and black out my wheels with this stuff.  It will have to wait until spring though, too cold in the garage right now.

better mention. just in case you know the cars. no they didn't come in white here in oz or the usa but only in japan.
so i liked the look of the white one so where you see the car sitting now i just covered in the verandah rubbed it back to the base colour and resprayed it.
local panel beater wanted $7k for the full body respray including inside doors, boot bonnet etc and i did it for $700.
colour is artic white over clear.

The Plasti-Dip fumes are getting to you ;)

I really like the maroon with black and gold pinstripes.  If I were ever going to repaint those are the colors I'd use, with maybe a little engine turned gold leaf.  Those Boar's Head trucks look so cool and old school.
