Hey guys... loving the RE. been problem free and riding it as much as possible!  I also had my first RE spotting since buying mine.  someone had parked one at the bar right outside my house!  very exciting!

yesterday i was behind an SUV and noticed that one of those small orange lights above the headlight was burned out.  i unscrewed everything but didn't see a bulb.  (hopefully this wasn't a stupid girly mistake).  anyone know how to change these bulbs?  also i pulled my headlight out to try to straighten it- it seems to be just crooked inside the external frame, but i can't straighten it as its all jammed in there weird.  huh.

thanks!

re:  the horns :::  (or the tiger eyes)

once you get the lense and socket assembly removed from the bike, then, you peel the black rubber away from the lense and it pulls out.  Now you should be able to see the top of the lightbulb.

It takes a bit of work from this point, but, basically it is a push & twist an eighth turn counter-clockwise to free the bulb from its socket.

the replacement bulb is a BA-9 style  ( bayonet base, 9mm diameter )

assembly is the reverse of disassembly.

+1 on replacing with led lamps, brighter and less power drain.

I cannot help on that weird American mini-headlight as here in Australia we get a 7" job that fills the entire shell.

Glad to hear from you snowkid.  I was hoping you were still out there riding!

Gotta agree with gremlin.  A BAR right outside your house?  What a neat idea!

The side to side adjustment screw for your headlight is a Phillips screw in the hole at the 9:00 o'clock position.
Looking at my factory sealedbeam I notice the screw doesn't align with the hole in the front rim so if I were going to try to adjust mine I would remove the forward chrome rim to get better access.  There is one screw on the bottom of this ring to remove to get the rim off.

Looking further at mine, it looks like the little spring they installed around the adjustment screw is just about bottomed out.  If I wanted to adjust it to point more to the right I would remove that spring and maybe replace it with a neoprene faucet washer.  (The little rubber washer that goes into a household faucet to keep it from dripping.)

If I needed the light to point more to the left I would just loosen that Phillips screw at the 9:00 o'clock position.

Happy riding. :)

Hey Glenn, where did you get the LED bulbs... is it something you can grab from supercheap? My standard ones blow all the time.

SinghG5 has an outstanding tutorial on replacing the nacelle bulbs with LEDs.  You can find it here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMCSEraYCxM&feature=plcp

Bulbs are about $3 each.  Here's a link for the correct LEDs:

http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/led-vehicle-replacement-bulbs/ba9s-led-bulb-4-led/6/

I swapped out my parking lights, neutral light, and turn signal indicator for LEDs in <10 minutes.  Huge improvement.  I didn't like the LED in the speedometer/odometer; it was way too bright during night driving.

Just use ebay, you will find dozens of Hong Kong Sellers for about $1 a bulb, they take about 4-6 weeks to get here.

Search for "BA9S".

Here is the sort of thing you need (though not necessarily blue ones) ...

Before you attempt to replace it, check the connections and make sure its not loose.  My light on the right side has gone out twice so far and has been the connection each time.

Glad to see your still on your bullet.
The tiger's eyes on my 2011G5 have blown twice , once each side. So last Monday they were replaced with LED bulbs , just in time as it happens, as the first previously replaced had blackened ready to blow. If you decide to replace the other small bulbs as suggested elsewhere a little care is required and some elbow grease as they can be a little unwilling to move . Just replaced the turnsignal ,neutral, highbeam, and fuel lights.
It's nice to actually be able to see these in daylight! Less than $20 well spent.

Hi snowkid,

Glad to here you're still riding. The little light bulbs are a PITA for me to get a grip on to remove. A piece of rubber tubing pushed just a bit over the end of the light bulb makes a handy extension I can grip. Just don't push it all the way on.

No matter where you go, there, you are.

I'll order some myself, did you order any for the indicators etc while you were at it, I thought they were a different size.

Cheers  :)
