For those of you who are relying on factory-installed split locking washers to hold your bike together, I present a photo of exhibit A, a bolt and lock washer holding a front fender support strut to the fork.  I found the bolt loose and about, in fact, to fall out.

Just sayin'...   ;)

I don't think those lock washers are of a quality material or have a spring rate to keep much tension on the bolt. I've replaced most, but not yet all, nuts with nyloc nuts to keep it together!!

I didn't notice/check when I first got my bike but at about 2 or 3 hundred miles I found all of the front fender bolts loose.  It's notite without loctite!  ;)
