Hi guys,
I just picked up a 2010 g5 deluxe with only 900 miles on it. I was not in the market for a bike whatsoever, and frankly, I had little knowledge of RE prior to the purchase. I literally bought the bike on a whim while grocery shopping of all things. This gentleman pulled up on the bike and I instantly fell in love with it. I made him an offer and the rest was history...That night I went home to research my new purchase and came across this marvelous forum. Within two days of reading here, I have learned a lot about the bike thanks to all the informative posts. The more I read, the more satisfied I feel about my impulsive act lol. I do have questions about the stock exhaust although I'm sure they have been asked before. How bad would it be if I were to just lop off two feet of the muffler with my angle grinder in interest of better looks/sound? I already bought a bunch of goodies from nfield gear and I will prob buy a new exhaust as well but I figured I'd try this first....Thank you in advance, Steve.

Welcome to the group. You will love it more after you ride it awhile!
You could saw the muffler off, but I'm not sure how much stuff will fall out of it. It is a catastrophic converter. It would probably not look too good and be noisier than a Hardley. The RE bazooka costs about $600 if you should ever need to replace it. I think I'd rather spend a $70-$150 to get a good aftermarket one for it.

Lack of impulse control only applies to things that are bad for you.  This distinctly falls into that category of 'assertively obtaining what you want without concern for repercussion.'  You, sir, are a beacon of light for all.

That being said, $20 says Steve is single.

Steve,
Welcome to the world of impulse buys and incessant tweaking and tinkering with things that are not broken!  That said, there is nothing to be gained by cutting the muffler. Just get a Silman, EFI or Harley softail muffler (or all three!) and have fun.

Regards,

Thank you all for the warm welcome,
I took the bike out today and I must say, it's a real head turner. Here in NYC, the bike really stands out amongst the sea of Ducati's and Harley's. I ordered the EFI silencer today instead of hacking apart the stock. Thanks. And FYI, while I do have maintain a gf, she can be out as quick as I bought this bike!!

If you are in NYC and want to dissapear into not NYC there are a few of us around.  I am in lower Westchester most of the year and Chumma and Piggypup are in NJ I believe.  Hit us up, go riding where you can roll for more than a block without stopping at a light.

Welcome aboard! A word to the wise: Loctite! Especially when you install that new silencer. But check bolts regularly, especially at first. The original owner may have taken care of that, of course.

Did it have a "for sale" sign on it, or did you just talk him out of his ride?
