Idle rpm

My tach indicates my G5 idles at 550 to 650 rpm....
Is that about half of what it really is?? The tach is adjustable and me thinks I need to adjust...
What say you guys?
Is it off by a half?
Thx

Think so.
Would make for a real oldtime sound if it was.

Yep, should be showing about 1200 RPM. I have seen them get down into the 800 range, but that's with the decompressor sticking open.

I've read that with tachos put onto Enfield, you have to double the reading because of where the tacho gets mounted.

Thanks guys! That will give me something to do today, while I watch it rain out the garage door.

Tachometers usually have a switch to adjust their reading based on number of spark plug fires per stroke. It will be in the instructions manual of tach.
I think your bike is running at perfect idle rpm, 2x550 = 1100.

I got mine to tickover like my BSA & MATCHLESS SINGLES. Sounds well below 800. I don't really need a Tachometer. I think it may be related to the slightly les restrictive 1960's exhaust I'm using. I'm happy with it.
