I was the original poster and all the advice is correct, after about 1,000kms the issue totally went away!! Did I teach the bike or did it teach me???

I'm glad to hear that. I'm at about 1200km and I definitely am finding I'm having less trouble finding gears -- still some trouble, but not as much as I was. So I think both the bike and I are adjusting!

I suspect the latter, though I'm sure none of us "expert" riders would admit that about our own skills ;)

even as I approach 10k miles I still miss the 2nd to 3rd shift and hit a false neutral when I forget I am riding my  G5. But then I also try to shift with the brake and brake with the shifter. That's what happens when you are dragged-up on British and Italian bikes from the 60s and 70s. My Ducati's had no false neutrals and changed clutchless at speed. My BSA and Triumph way different story. So when I hit that false neutral I figure it's me forgetting what I am riding.
Now 2011 Royal Enfield G5 and just added 2014 Continental GT and latest 2015 Ducati 803 Scrambler Urban Enduro

1969 Ducati 350 Desmo Racer
1972 Mototrans Ducati 250 24 Horas

1967 BSA Bantum

Another thing, make sure your chain slack is properly adjusted.
