The chain tension by the book is 25-30mm, but this is supposed to be while you're sitting on the bike. It's damn hard to measure the slack from up there.
But this works out to be about 45-50mm (1-3/4 to 2") on the center stand.
Soon you'll have to look for the tightest spot to measure the slack as the chain wears. Just turn the wheel and check the slack until you come to the tight spot and adjust from there.
The only time you'll need to disconnect the chain masterlink is when you need a new chain, sprockets, or rear brakes.

Good, thanks. Mine was delivered with an inch and a half on the bottom chain so that's good. Thanks to all who responded.

I had an issue with my gas cap not sealing properly when I first got my bike.  Sometimes after riding or letting it sit over night you could see where drips ran down the tank.  I called the dealer and of course no one ever heard of this being an issue before, but they suggested making sure the cap is completely closed and both hooks click into place.  Well, I don't know how you can verify the hooks are in place with the cap closed, but I make a point of pushing down on the cap after filling until I hear it click and then pushing a couple more times and I haven't had any further issues.  Even from the start I didn't fill the tank full.  Keep in mind the fuel at the station is kept in large tanks underground and is therefore typically cooler and more dense.  When you fill up your bike the gas slowly warms and expands and can overflow through the filler neck.  Unless I'm going on a long ride, I leave the fuel level roughly 1.5 inches under the filler neck for safety.

On my California bike I don't have any other choice but to leave about 1 inch of space at the top of the tank.

There is a little sheet metal cup with a hole thru it for the nozzle that extends down into the tank about that far.
The California model also doesn't have a flip up lid on the tank.
It used the same kind of "click, click, click" screw on cap that is on auto's.
Well, not quite the same.  At least they had the decency to chrome plate it so it looks like a motorcycle gas cap. :)

Well, I took the advice of some of the posters and bought an o-ring plus some gas friendly gasket material and thought the problem with the leaking cap was solved but a film of gas could still be seen around the cap, only on one side which was always the case. On further investigation I noticed the cap is lined up off to one side making it impossible for both latches to catch, only the one on the right catches and I guess always did. I loosened the screws and tried to realign the cap but to no avail. At least RE is consistent.....nothing on the bike is symetrical. I'll give the dealer a shout and see if they'll try switching caps but I doubt it that will work, I think it's the holes in the tank that are off. Thanks to all the responders.....I'll get used to the smell of gas.

Not all of them are made in Asia. My Scrambler was made in England. You have to look at the VIN to tell where they were made.
