You could use some old fuel line and cut it up and put the donuts between the fins. My iron came with similar dampers between the fins.

Good Idea,  Thanks !

Are you saying I can use my RE to make hot donuts?  This bike is AWESOME!

I recall my Bultacos really having a very audible ring to them. that's where the term "ringdinger" for two strokes came from!

Great feedback all... and I appreciate the mention of the previous thread as well. I guess I'm just going to leave them on until a few pop off, then I'll take the rest off.  I love the ability to get straight answers and honest opinions on this Forum.  The way I see it, my dealer was there to sell the bike, but HERE is where I get the straight dope.

Thanks!

Ya, I know it's slow. But I've always been a little slow. (budump bump!)

:o I have never heard about such things as for I am innocent.  ::)

My 1982 Yamaha Maxim has very similar black rubbers (heh I said rubbers) in the fins. In fact I wonder if they got them from the same factory?  I haven't the need to find out if there is any increased vibe on my 650 inline 4 or my 500 long stroke single. I hate vibration when it gets to the point you feel like your going to pee.  My rebel was like that above 80.

Where do you suppose they manufacture those rubber bits anyways? The price quote sounded pretty high though I don't know the exchange rate from pounds to kilos.  I guess that matters when converting to US currency. I bet they contain rare earth rubber.

This isn't a vibration you will feel, it's more of a noise concern.

I just tried removing the fin rubber strips on my C5 (which I've only had for a week), hoping that I wouldn't hear any difference because I prefer the look of the engine without the strips.  It sounded much the same when I started it and at low speeds, but when I was cruising along at an indicated 50mph (actually 46mph according to the bicycle speedo that I've put on it [to provide a trip meter function]) I could hear a loud tappet type noise which I didn't remember hearing at that speed before.  So I put the rubber strips back on and went down the same road again, and this time the tappet noise was gone and I could enjoy the deep rumbling exhaust again.  I don't like the sound of a tin of nails being rattled so I think I'll keep the rubber strips on the fins after all.

Yeah, I get that tappet noise to. I hadn't thought about it being associated with the rubbers. I'll still leave them off.

I don't mind you asking (after all, I'm not a woman!).  I'm 54 years old, 55 in a couple of months or so.  My hearing is not as good as it used to be, but it's not too bad.

Does anyone that actually notices a difference wear ear plugs when they ride? I hadn't really thought about it, but I never go without them. All I hear is the exhaust, but that's probably also because of the EFI pipe I have on there, lol.

I was guessing you were a real young dude.  The high frequencies are the first to go.  ::)
