I accidentally posted this in the FAQ section when I meant it to go here, so here is a repeat that I hope to hear more from:
I currently ride an '08 Ural Patrol and though I love it, I am also interested in a solo bike.  Like the Ural, I won't use it primarily for freeway rides though in So. California at times it is a necessity.  My question is this: At 6' 1" and 240 lbs., am I too big for a C5 Special? I am absolutely sold on the retro looks and really want one, but will I be able to maintain freeway speeds of 65-70 mph? I have read threads here about riding on the Interstates but didn't see how big the riders were.  Are there any bigger riders out there with some input? Thanks.

Size always matters.

65 ~ 70 on the level is doable for me, and, I count as 2 people.

I'm 6'8" tall & fill interior doorways.

You will be just fine with a C5 special! I would say yes to both your questions.

I am 6' and 225#.  I have ridden my C5 over 10,000 miles including a 1600 mile round trip from Portland, OR to San Francisco and back.  You'll be fine.

That all depends.
2 up, all day at 70mph.
I think I might want to ride a H-D.

I'm 6'3", 240 lbs, and my riding partner has a V-Strom, so I'm usually doing 80 just to keep up with him. I don't have any issues crusing at that speed.

Thank all of you for your input; it makes me feel better about my decision to go with RE.  It will still be a bit down the line, but I look forward to a C5 Special in the near future.

You have a guy your size living in San Bernardino. He rides those speeds all the time and has well over 11000 miles on his G5. No problems.

Sirdante, If you haven't already, go to Doug Douglas Motorcycles on 5th St. in San Bernardino and try their showroom Enfields ON FOR SIZE. I went there last September , sat on a C5 and it just did not feel right. I'm not trying to start a shit storm but it felt like a scooter. I went over and climbed on a G5 and it felt like my old beezer. Exactly what I was looking for. I took it home the next day and have been a happy camper ever since.
I would much rather ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow    Jack

sirdante,

Fully laden my older iron barrel powered Bullet has a curb weight of 498 pounds. Add close to another 400 pounds on top of that for two up fully geared riders.

Granted we are not as quick as a Yamahondokawazuki but the engine makes enough torque to haul us around.

By all means go to a dealer and check out the bikes.
No matter where you go, there, you are.

What the heck are you lading it with?

I will definitely hit Doug Douglas Motorcycles in SB.  I work in Riverside, live there part-time as well, and have a couple of buddies who highly recommend DDM. Again, thank you all for the help, and keep the advice coming!
