"out the door"
2010, NEW C5 Black - $5800
2012, NEW C5 Special Mil Green - $7100

What's your thoughts?

Is there enough of a difference in the bikes regardless of color from a 2010 to a 2012 to justify the cost difference?

I had almost the exact same choice to make...I went with the new 2010 and decided to save the $1200.  As far as i can tell, the only thing i'm missing is the kick start; at some point in 2010 they added a more convienient oil filter cap and updated some of the wiring harnesses, but my 2010 has both of the updates, (the factory doesn't necessarily only update things every calander year model, but appears to make changes throughout a year).  Also, either way, you'll get the 2 year warranty.
Anyway, so far I'm happy with my choice, and with the $1200 i saved, i'm able to justify getting other odd's and ends for the bike that I wanted, (exhaust, larger headlight, bar-end mirrors, ect.).
All that being said, I do miss not having a kicker, but for $1200 i just couldnt justify going with the 2012 if that was going to be the only difference.
I'm sure other guys on the forum can offer other insight into the differences between the years, but I think the 3 I mentioned are the big three, and depending on when in 2010 it came out of the factory, the C5 you're looking at may have 2 of the 3 updates.
Either way, i'm sure you'll love it...I've had mine for just under 2 months, and after 1500 miles, I'm loving it.

Yup, no kicker and lots of tiny little upgrades made along the way.  Also, the 2012 might have the new straight fork that makes the bike more stable at speed.  I'd save the cash and get the 2010.

THere have been no reported (here on the forum) reports of moderate speed wobbles on the 'special'. There were plenty of those on the older model. It can all be sorted out (reportedly) if the bike(2010) is setup right.

I would pay for the new front end (if it has it) AND the kick starter. No front end, maybe not. But then that's why I got a G5 in the first place.

Hold your horsesBullets!  C5s are just fine!  I would personally pick the 2012 for the kick starter and the 19" wheel. I spent several hundred on 2 sets of tires and a 19" wheel to eventually "build" a C5 special.....but maybe I just tinker too much! Anyway, the 2010 is also a great bike...have the wheel alignment checked at delivery and reduce air pressure to 18 front / 22 rear and enjoy the $1200.

My vote is for 2012 as there have been good number of improvements since a couple of year ago.

Not all 2012 C5s have the 19 inch front wheel. Mine has an 18. Only the C5 "Special" models have the bigger wheel.

Wheel size, schmeal size! Bigger is better in my book, and gives a more stalwart presence. The thing is, you just can't figure out why by looking at it..! It just SEEMS different! As far as handling, who knows..? I'm sure the consensuses taken will disagree forever, but isn't it all about what YOU like? As far as Olive paint costing an extra grand or so..well, they sell 'em so it must be worth it!  LOL! I love mine, right down it it's lousy, crappy chain..(soon to be tossed on the trash pile)

C5 ,C5 Military ,G5 -but alas there is another the bad boy of RE's that has always been (well pretty much) . They even designate it as such the B5. It has 19" wheels  And in a pack of REs (if you can get enough REs together to be considered a pack)  it will stand out different than the others. It is the different of the different.

I wouldn't have bought my Desert Storm if it had 19 inch wheels. That would have been a deal breaker since it would have limited my tire choices.

Different strokes for different folks.

If the variation in the prices was $3k - that would be something to think about.
But for $1200 - just buy the 2012 model and in 2 years time your bike is only 2 not 4! ;)

true ... but B5 comes before C5 .

Generally the G5 or C5 are a good choice if they meet your requirements as-is but the B5 is the one to pick if you want to customise.
