First the why...  it is hard to get my toe in to shift gears when I'm wearing my size 14 steel toed work boots. 

I have a kick start only bike with the shift lever on the left.  My guess is that a handle would be attached at the kick starter but I am only guessing at this point.

How about a shove in the right direction?  Thanks!!

I had problems getting my size 13's under the lever too, especially when wearing my cycling boots that limit my ability to flex my ankle.

My solution was to remove the rubber from the lever. That adds enough space for me to fit my toe under the lever.

Since I have mine apart right now I have also discovered that the lever is mounted on a splined shaft and can be adjusted.

Rotate it 1 pline at a time, it doesn't take much. The footpeg also rotates on it's mount but it is larger moves. Keep trying... I'm sure that you'll get the right combination.

i I would move the shifter before the peg. My pegs ground too much as it is, I wouldn't want them any lower.
