brought it home yesterday.
i'm going to get the canvas bags  and see if i can get some mirrors that look better.
i was surprised how well it did on the bumpy roads around the sonoma coast.
i have only put about 200 miles on it, it had 900 on it when i bought it.

Congratulations!  It looks great!  I like that they're painting the rims like they should be on the military bikes now.

Congrats! I love my C5 Military and I too was surprised how it handles bumpy roads. I live out in the country so there is a lot   of bumpy roads. I lost track of when I got mine but about a month I think now and have 1400+ miles.  Awesome bike!!! Have fun and be safe, oh and be prepared to get asked a lot of questions when you stop.

P.S.
Master kick starting it.  Don't worry it is reliable but it just looks cool when you kick one to life especially the military one.

thanks.
i was thinking about hitting the chrome stuff with a scotch brite pad to give it a brushed aluminum look.

i have been practicing the kicker...i found that if i put it on the center stand i can usually get it on the 2nd or 3rd kick.

ps...love the spell checker!!

That scotch-brite idea is interesting, but I would hold off on anything NOT actual chrome. The engine, unless i miss my guess, is polished aluminum with a clear coat. Scratching that up might lead to a different look from what you desire. Plus, I think it might lead to an avenue for corrosion to get in and really mess up the look.
Let us know how the canvas bag option turns out, I'm ready to change my leather bags to something else!

For what it's worth, in "THE ILLUSTRATED GUIDE TO MILITARY MOTORCYCLES" the restored WW 2 AJS,  Ariel, BSA, Matchless, Norton, Royal Enfield and Triumph all had bare aluminum engine cases.
The right side cam covers on these were bare aluminum.

The primary cases on the left side of the AJS, Ariel, Matchless, Norton and Royal Enfield were painted OD.

The engine case on the Volocette is bare aluminum but the left side primary and right side cam gear cases are OD.

The tire rims and spokes on all of them are OD.

I don't think the engine cases on the UCE bikes are cleared, just polished aluminum.

I can confirm that. Don't leave it stood still in a damp garage for too long.... :'(
