Thank y'all for the advice.  I just discovered my bike has a 2 year warranty, not 1 year as it says on the Royal Enfield website.  So its still covered and its worthwhile to rent a trailer and haul it to San Antonio.  I'll probably do that.  I am moving soon, and a partially-disassembled bike in my garage would be very inconvenient.

Good news :)  Call your dealer, he may have a trailer and may not charge much for pickup, or see if you insurance covers towing to a shop.

How would the butterfly bar stop damage caused by stomping on the shift lever?
By the way after reading your post more closely. I'm sure the fork has come loose from the tang on the right side. Fairly easy fix. You'll probably have to take the shift lever off and push the shaft through a few inches to get the tang lined up with the fork.

This might be the problem and potential fix after you get the two parts hooked up again inside the right side casing.

Sounds like you've got an line on a fix. If you decide you finally need a mechanic to look at it, TJ's on Lamar services RE's. Also Zabor's is reputedly good (but their staff lacks... charisma ;)).

Also, who is the dealer in SA? The closest one I had found was in Katy.

It's too bad you're moving, it would be nice to link up with other Austin Royals.  :)

The nearest dealer is in Killeen.  They are new, and say they just got their bikes but don't have any parts yet.  I was wrong about SA.  TJs has stopped servicing RE.  They said it is too hard to get parts.  Zabors won't touch the innards of non Jap bikes.  They are good for changing tires though.  Very nice guys.

I was just down at TJ's last week about a new brake lever. They didn't have anything for me, but the clerk tried at least.

Are you referring to Killeen Power Sports? http://www.killeenpowersports.com/
