Ooo seems odd! I must have got used to all the red before.

TBH the blue doesn't stand out too much when I'm sneaking a look at work!

Still getting spam on here though.

I liked the older site better.
It had pictures, and members rides and modifications photos to look at, and links to the Enfield Gear store, and links to the new models for sale,  and The BUZZ, etc.
Now, it seems quite bare.

Great. Now it has the generic look of all the other forums. Is this what you were going for, Kevin?
Ditto on the random thumbnails.  >:(

It takes a bit to get used to....I do miss the links to the picture gallery and nfield gear. However, It does take up the hole screen on the computer now as opposed to the middle two thirds. So thats good.

We did have quite a deluge of spam on here right after the upgrade while I was bringing the garden walls back up. Should be back to good now though. Use the "report post" function if you come across leftovers.

The gallery and Member Rides are coming back soon. They needed a little extra rigging to play nicely with the new platform.

I think a Karma is a woman who has children and likes Kars.

I can't afford to have another one and the one I do have isn't thrilled about getting an assistant.

I think I'll try to talk her into letting me get a Bikema instead.
-----------------
I know a lot of work went into building the new forum layout but so far I liked the older one better.
The direct links to the Nfieldgear store, Dealers, Bikes was handy to have.   I'm sure they will come back in one form or another?

I am having trouble getting used to it also. Just figured out how to reply and am working on only seeing posts since my last sign in. Pictures etc. are in fact still a work in progress. Our hand was forced in that the we were on an old version and the new version has improved security and we could not keep the old format. There will be new features and I cannot articulate them but I am sure Rhett will. I don't know what the Karma thing is either

I liked the old format, however, I also like way this new one greets you when you log on and tells what messages you have. I'm not a computer whiz, in fact I'm quite dense when it comes to these things. I had no idea that I had messages. Some of them quite old. I apologize for not getting back to those of you sent me these. cochi

                 WHY??

The old format was fine. You've got to remember that we are a bunch of guys running bikes that are a 50 year old design because we can; yes we prefer it.
If "New and improved" was always better Kevin would still be running a mental hospital.

No.

But it would be handy! It would save having to scroll for ages in the small window I use at work. I suppose I could wait until I get home to read the forum. But where's the fun in that?

Why all the whining ?

When you come to the website, just hit the "Show unread posts since last visit" button at the top of the screen. That will give you everything that has happened since your last visit.

And a huge advantage of the new format is that you can view big pictures without having to scroll left and right due to the narrow old format.

It's worlds better to me.

I like the old format much better than this new hard to read, bland and very spread out format of long sentences spread over several inches making it difficult for eyes to trace the long lines and ultimately it becomes user unfriendly.  This is like going to a huge store and getting lost in the isles and coming back without buying what you went in for !

The letters are pretty small.

I'm on a ton of forums and this new format is pretty standard for them across the various forums. It works pretty well and it is usually pretty secure against hackers.

This is much cleaner design both graphically and typographically. Larger, thicker text. Easier to read. The colors and layout are sharper, though that's just my taste.

You'll get used to it, just like you got used to the old one. And I'm sure Rhett will figure out how to bring all the other goodies back.

I'm thinking that we may, indeed, be able to offer a few options for the forum layout. I'll see what I can do to set one up that's somewhat similar the previous version.

For you naysayers - Other than general familiarity, what specifically do you miss from the old layout and what specifically do you dislike about the new one?

So far, one common point I'm hearing is that the new layout is too wide and that there are readability issues. Kind of funny... making the layout wider was the most common point of feedback we used to get on the old layout. I'll see if I can tune it a bit. There's room for compromise, methinks.
What wouldn't you not do if you didn't know you wouldn't fail?

New format seems to work well on my Iphone.  I do seem to need to log in every time I switch machines, my assumption is that a login is now tied to your mac address and not as much to a cookie.  Not a bad thing I guess.

Is the guy with a cane for spoilers? [suspicious]Or do you need to be logged in to see it?  [/suspicious]

The new engine does seem nice.

1. The new font Verdana is harder to read than older Tahoma font - even Calibri 11 is better than this new font.

2.  Way too long sentence lines, one looses track going from left to way out to exreme tright.

3.  The text inside the Typing Box is much larger than text outside the box.  If one wants to read and respond to another post, eyes have to constantly readjust to two widely different sizes - one inside the box and one outside.  Not a smooth transition.

4.  Copy a post, and paste it on a new page (of word document), and try to read - see how horrible is the layout.  The name of user, symbol, karma, mail icon, other icons, each takes up one line then alternating space, so the whole page from top to bottom is filled with these symbols from top to bottom before reaching body of text ! Once you reach text, the user name is out of view, so you lose the relationship between author and at least first few lines of the post.

In the compose screen the last block after the guy with a cane is toggle view,  It adjusts the fonts to the out of compose view I think.

Font should be a skin option IMO..

I agree that the quick reply and for that matter the preview  boxes both have very large type on my computer screen.
This makes it difficult, especially in the Quick Reply, to see more than two lines at a time.

I notice that in the preview box I can see 6 lines which is better but perhaps the type size in both boxes could be made to look slightly smaller?

Yeah, I shouldn't complain. When it comes to puters I'm as dumb as a rock. This is a great forum. I'm gonna try and post a photo of my one of my bikes to see if I can do it lol.

I would like the smaller screen back. This one requires far too much scrolling around, especially when trying to post something and you have to scroll up and down to edit anything, then scoll again to post it. Waaay too much scrolling required.
I'm still scrolling
to get
to the
post button

Bare
Now I have to scroll up to see how many mistypes I have.
Ha!
Fixed a
few,
now to scroll to

The look is different but the basic function is the same for me so I can deal with it.

I hope a future improvements lets me choose background colors like the old red.

Its gray sky's here for 6-9 months out of the year so the current gray I have on my screen is my last choice.
No matter where you go, there, you are.

For the record, each morning I have to log into the site but if I leave and come back later in the day I'm still logged in.  I do not officially log out during the day or in the evening.  I just go to other sites.
It appears the forums server resets itself each night and forgets who was here the previous day.

Weird... I had to login the first time I saw the new forum , but it has kept me logged in ever since.

I have had to log in everytime too...

@Greenmachine:

There are two places for LOG IN that provide slightly different settings.

1.  On top right - 'Welcome Guest'

2.  On the black bar that has 'Home' 'Help'.......'Calendar' 'LOGIN'

If you click on 2nd option, a small window opens that allows you to set 'How many minutes to stay logged' or 'Always stay logged on'.

Rhett and Kevin,
The biggest issue I have is with the new dark grey font color against a light grey background. I would respectfully request that the font color be changed back to black.

It is definitely easier to read black on white font, especially on a tiny cell phone screen or on an iPad in bright light.

For the moment, the NfieldGear stores site is still running.
If you want to get to it, open this link in a new tab or a new window

Well, I'm hoping for the best but in the meantime I'm giving them some time to get to know the software and figure out how to put the good stuff back where it was.

Of course I'm guessing but I know I've installed stuff that is supposed to work first time out of the box and it only took me half a day to get the dam stuff to let my computer run, let alone run the new software.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

I know, right! It might take a while for some older (not really age-wise lol) to get used to the new look. This new look is like the UCE block instead of the iron-barrel, still RE :D
