'12 RE C5 Classic/Special, in US trim...  I note the headlamp does not shut off, regardless of what position the headlamp switch is in.  Consulting the schemnatic in the Owner's Manual shows two potential circuit paths in the switch, running parallel.

Is this a "normal" feature of US-trim Enfields? Has anyone decoded the schematic drawing enough to re-enable the headlamp kill switch?

IMWTK...

Open the headlamp and behind it it a short 3-4" jumper cable with red-orange connectors. Remove this, snap together the remaining connectors and that reenables the switch. Having the headlight on is a legal and sensible safety requirement, so only do it if this if OK in your area.

US DOT law, moto headlights must be on at all times.  There's a little shunt wire harness behind the headlight that does this.  Take it out and your switch is active.

Once you pull the headlight its real easy to change, just follow the video.

Enh... The Law says a lot of things we do commonly aren't allowed. I'll take my chances. All of my Wings had killable headlamps for parade duty, and none were ever cited. It's nice to be able to kill the headlamp if you're trying to crank over a cold engine with a questionable battery.

Beautiful; thanks. I sense the impending loss of an hour or two, watching Singh5g's videos.

Although DOT demands the headlight on at all times, it is up to the individual States to decide what is required within their boundaries.

Arizona for instance requires that all motorized vehicles that will be on the roads must have a headlight but there is no requirement for it to be turned on during daylight hours.

Other States might have different laws so it's wise to find out what your particular State Laws are.

I stumbled on the video last month and pulled the offending wire harness, following the very simple video explanation.  Took less than 5 minutes.

I still ride with the light on, but now the light switch functions instead of sitting there with no purpose.

Arizoni, thanks for the clarification.  I guess US bikes all come the same way so they don't need to import specials for different states.

I pulled mine out a while ago.  I generally leave it on all the time but if I need a little extra battery power when starting or if I've got the ignition on for diagnostics I kill it to save power.

Head lights "on" is a State law,. similar to helmet law. But to sell a new motorcycle in the U.S. it must be set to lights on all the time.

In my state I can turn the light s off, throw my helmet into a ditch and ride past an officer,....no problem as long as I don't speed.

Most of the time I have lights and helmet on....sometimes a "nerd net" too . There is no law requirement for being smart.

Same here, it was one of the first things I did to my new bike, along with removing the side stand kill switch.

is there a way to moidify it so the headlight is on when the engine is on, BUT, i can still use the parking lights when it's off

I just installed the 7" headlight conversion, it has a small bulb i assume is a parking bulb, there were two wires that i pluggged into, looked right?

Thanks
