Haven't made my reservation yet but I will be there.

I made mine today and made my reservations on the car ferry across Lk. Michigan over the weekend. It's worth the 183 bucks to miss Chicago.
Looks like I'll have a chance to buy you that lunch/dinner I owe you sooner also.
I'm getting pumped, it's been a long winter and I want to ride.
Did I nominate you for president of the new RE association yet?

I wouldn't care to ride through Chicago either.  Lunch sounds good, I'm sure we can find a McDonalds someplace.  As to the nomination now that could be a problem.  :P
Sure hope there is a good turnout for the REunion and person can pick up lots of good info at one of these things.

You definitely want to avoid the trip through NW Indiana and the south suburbs and south side.

I have lived on the far north side for 12+ years, but grew up south and southwest.

There is just no easy/safe way to get from NW Indiana to Lake Shore Drive without using surface streets through sketchy towns or VERY busy highways filled with trucks and idiots.

Once you get to LSD around 63rd street, then the trip gets interesting.

I suppose you could travel back roads Indiana a bit farther south to skirt the City, but it would add a couple hours at least to the trip.

Besides, I have wanted to try the ferry some time. It looks very cool.

No thanks, not for me.
I like to miss every town with a population over 1,500.
If not on a freeway I could just imagine spending 5 hrs trying to get out of that megalopolis alive.
Nothing against Chicago but just getting out of Detroit alive is enough for me.

HRAB Jim,
I'm starting to get serious about deciding what to pack/wear for the REunion next week.  Care to make any weather forcasts?  What about rides you guys have planned or any other Official activities that might be going on.  Any info you could pass on would be appreciated.
I hear the mosquitoes up there are large and mean, any truth to that?
Thanks,

According to the weather channel 10 day forecast it looks like high of 75 low of 58 and rain.
Of course they are wrong 50% of the time.
I'm going to plan it like it was in Michigan.
High of 100
Low of 40
Rain, Snow and Sun.
I haven't been in Southern Minnesota but the ones in Northern Minnesota are not too bad, about the size of P51 Mustangs but lacking most of the offensive punch.

We are hoping for the best with the weather, but it will be what it will be. We have a very nice ride on Saturday along with lunch. This part of MN is one of the best places in the northland to ride. It is full of river valleys, hills, small quaint towns, nice restaruants etc. Here is a link to one of them:
http://www.lanesboro.com/default.php
It has a lot in common with the area near Rolla MO the home of the Rally on the River. We are planning several meals, great riding and great door prizes. It will be a small rally and weather cooperating should be a lot of fun.

I think I'm ready for the 650 mile trek to the REunion.  The loaded bike looks about like this picture from the Rally on the River last year, kinda like some round the world adventure, but I need my stuff.    My riding partner on his 500cc Aprilla Scarabeo with the side bags and top trunk on the other looks very organized and sleek.
The new rear tire (bottom picture) is a 3.25/3.85 and is sure on the 3.25 side, looks kinda small but seems to be up to the task.
CJ, hope you have a safe trip and good weather.  Your ferry ride across the lake is sure to be interesting.  Looks like we will be starting out in the rain tomorrow.  Doesn't sound like there will be very many of us.  See you Friday........Leonard

Rolled into Salina, KS just after noon today and in time for my riding buddy, Richard, and I to have lunch with our wives.
Total trip mileage was 1579 miles.  Used 40oz of oil and averaged just over 60mpg running mostly at 55-60 (GPS) MPH.  The REB never missed a beat and just seems to get stronger with the miles (15395).
Attached photo is Chris Janes (T120rbullet) demonstrating front brake adjustment on my bike while Bob Bezin looks on.
Pictures and more after my nap.

Leonard, glad to hear you, Reb & Richard made it back safe and sound.
Did that front brake treat you right on the way back?
I shouldn't have burnt all my extra clothes as a offering to the rain gods because I think they wanted something more and paid me back twofold on the way back. Good side is I got to try out my new rainsuit and still made some good time on the way back.

I'll have a ride report done up in the next couple days but my POP seems to be down now so the pics will be awhile. I did take em to work today and I sent em to Kevin so they might be up there before things get straightened up with my POP.

40 oz was correct.  That was one quart plus 8 ozs.  About right considering last year on the 1000 mile Rally on the River trip I used one quart.  I don't think I'm using that much, no smoke bellowing behind me or anything.  I think some gets blown out the breather and some just evaporates from engine heat.  Motor sure runs sweet in the cool of the morning.  You got to remember too that this was 90% 55-60 speeds, not thumping around town.

Yup, you should have been there.
How did it compare? Well, a bit tamer (probably wouldn't have been if you were there). Campground was cleaner, Showers were better. Food was great. People were great. Scenery was great. Riding was great.
So for me it was just about the same thing except in a different place and a different time. Made some new friends, drank a few beers, road a few miles, got a few good story's to tell.
I'll give a full report about how I learned how to unroll a condom in due time!

Your brake adjustment made a vast improvement.  I must have been braking with one shoe all this time.  The shoe wear is even though.
Anyway I put the front brake to a good test on the way home.  I was following a pickup towing a large cargo trailer when all of a sudden it started getting bigger real fast.  The fool was slowing to turn right and didn't have any lights on the trailer.  I grabbed a big handfull and it hauled down very smartly.
I think I will take a couple of pictures and put a tutorial on my blog on how to do the adjustment.  It is easy since I've seen it done.  Just had trouble doing it from written directions only.
The jeans burning ritual would have made a great photo but I couldn't get to my camera in time.  The fire sure stunk up the place though.

I'm sure CMW will have a report in a newsletter but here is my reccolation..........
1 My 2004 Sixty-5 from Kansas
2 Ron from Minnesota on the blue 1999
3 Bob Bezin from Wisconsin on a 2006 (I think) red Deluxe
4 the guy from Chicago with the sidecar and three kids
5 CMW's 570cc

Bullet owners that choose to ride a Harley - a guy from Detroit

Not a big turn out and folks are missing out on a great time.  You get a chance to talk face to face with people you speak to on the phone and see post on the forum.  When you are used to being the only Royal Enfield around it's great fun to ride with others.

My ISP has had my photo stuff out of order for almost a month. Thats why it took so long to get these baby's up for viewing.
I'll be sending my ride report to Geoff as soon as I get a chance so it can be in the news letter should he choose to put it in there.

I for one was disappointed to see a Harley from the Detroit area painted up to try to look like an  Enfield, but I guess people will do anything to fit in. I am also looking forward to the Rally on the River.

You just might be seeing the HD in Mo. again.
After I replaced the rings last month (the reason I didn't ride the Bullet to Mn.) I started hearing a ticking in the top end. I played around with the pushrod adjustment to no avail.
Then I put a bore scope in through the sparkplug hole and I could see that the piston was hitting the exhaust valve ever so slightly.
So that leads me to think that either the rod is stretching or the head of the piston is getting ready to separate.  With over 15K on that head, valve, piston combo that I have to start doing that now concerns me. Since I'm planning on running this motor for the rest of my life I would hate to grenade the bottom end doing something I knew I shouldn't do.
Today I'm pulling it apart and putting a new cylinder and piston on and will test it out with some clay to see how close the valve is getting to the piston. If it's still hitting I'm riding the HD out there because I'll never get my crate motor broke in before then.
Either way I'm going to paint my Enfield up to look like the HD and ride it to both REunions next year for sure!

While anything is possible it seems odd to me that piston is hitting the valves. I could be wrong (please don't tell my wife) but it would seem to me that the rod and or piston would have to really stretch to do that. I would think that the small end of the rod would become oval before the rod stretched. Is it a stock piston? Any high lift cams?
Best Regards,

Stock piston and cams.
Kibblewhite valves.
I even have the new style cylinder base gasket that is about twice as thick than the original ones were (before install).
It's hitting just a bit just outside the relief cut into the piston. I could hog out the relief just a bit and run it but I want to find out what is happening in there.
When I replaced the rings there was no noticeable slop in the big end but I didn't even think to look at the little end.
It's all OK though because I enjoy turning wrenches on my baby, just need a good excuse to get in there and "bullet-proof" the bottom end.
