Is the 7 inch adapter kit as big of piece of junk as it seems?  No instructions included, the two lower mounting holes were not drlled round to allow the bolts to go through, and the flattened u-shaped piece that is supposed to hold the two rings together doesn't catch the lip of the front chrome ring.  For the price I expected better.  Combined with the engine guard whose mounting arms are two different lengths, and crooked, I can't say I'm too impressed with the quality of the accessories I purchased.  Any tips on mounting the headlight are appreciated.

Follow this link to read about my adventure with installing a 7 inch Lucas headlight.

Read the entire topic because the first time I tried it I messed up a little.

For what it's worth, here is a link to how I installed the Diamond Crash Bar on my California G5

German quality just isn't what it used to be.

Oh, wait, was this stuff made in India??!  Don't worry-when the chrome starts peeling off and the metal rusting through, no one will notice how crooked or mis-shapen it is.

Well, after launching a couple of the W clips across the room, the headlight and visor are mounted in the tim ring.  After drilling out two mounting holes, the base ring is mounted on the bike.  Everything is lined up for the front trim ring to mate with the base ring, except the u-shaped piece when tightened doesn't extend up enough to catch the lip of the front trim ring.  I'm planning to flatten the rear of the u-shaped piece and see if that solves the problem.

I tried the "blue language" suggestion and made disparaging remarks about the ancestry of the designers and manufacturers of the offending parts, but that didn't seem to deliver any progress. ;)

Well, after launching a couple of the W clips across the room,

Are you sure your not using them upside down ? The right way up they usually go on without too much hassle.   Its a common mistake to flip them over and when used the wrong way up you need an amazing amount of force to get them to clip on and they tend to want to escape, fly and be free.  If you do fit them upside down they still work fine, once finally on, but are a total PITA to get on in the first place.

I believe I have everything pointed the right way based on the info from this forum.  With the u-shaped piece it looks like it only fits one way, otherwise it is too short to even get close to the front trim ring.  Instructions would have helped.

If the U shaped thing is the part with the threaded hole in it and it is supposed to come up from inside the headlight rim to hold it in place I ended up bending it slightly to cause the retaining end to stick up a bit higher.

That seemed to allow it to catch the headlight rim and hold it in place.

As I've mentioned before, I have yet to have one aftermarket accessory actually fit without having to modify it or the part it is meant to hook onto.

It's almost like the maker built a mock up to fit a motorcycle they had on hand.
Of course their motorcycle doesn't represent the average one made so their products never seem to fit anyone else's motorcycle.

I got a new clip from a Vintage Triumph dealer that fits a lot better than the original one. That's after the original vibrated off and departed the scene leaving the headlight dangling by the wires. The two bottom screws went, too. Use Loctite on all this stuff.

Where did you get the replacement clip?  I think mine was drilled at the wrong end.

Well, I stuck the plate in a vice and flattened the back end on it.  Works great and looks great.  I've put roughly a hundred miles on it without issue.
