  • If it smells nasty, don't eat it

Just had my C5 serviced and after a couple of rides I noticed a sqweeking noise coming from around the back wheel. This is a turning wheel type of sqweek, not a bouncy sqweek. The bike only has 3,000 miles on it. Any ideas of what I should be looking for as the cause??

Oil the chain.  It might have to soak for a few hours before the squeak goes away.  Make sure the chain is not too tight.

make sure that your tensioning screw that pushes down on the rear break lever is not screwed in to much. Couldnt be the issue if was my bike as this was the first thing to vibrate off mine.  :D

It was just lubed at service but they did tighten the rear brake considerably. I will lube again and loosen the rear brake and hopefully the problem will go away. Nothing worse than unwanted noises on a new bike! Especially right after servicing

If they tightened the chain then then moved the wheel.  When you tighten the rear axle and the nut that keeps the backing plate from spinning you have to press down on the rear brake to center it.  If they didn't do this the shoes may not be centerd with respect to the drum and you can get squeaks.

You can go bacl and ask them to check this or wait until the brake shoes wear to the right shape for their new home.  I'd go back ;)

They did not tighten the chain. I was kind of hoping they would. After it stops raining here I will test to see if looseningz the brakes and lubing the chain does the trick. Thanks for everyone's help!

I've found on mine that when I hear a noise it usually means something is about to fall off.
