I have been having a problem since I brought the bike home with a leaky Petcock, it leaks I believe where the threads meet the switch on valve.  Does anyone have a recommendation of a thread sealant like plumbers tape that would hold up to gas, so it would not break down and start leaking again?  Maybe some red permitex??

I have gas problems :-\   just ask the wife...

thanks,

abe..

Abe-
the gas tap on my 2003 leaked when new.
The warranty replacement leaked as well...
I switched to the brass hi-volume and found joy. One oldschool trick you might try it to rub bar soap on the threads and then tighten...  the soap gels with gasoline stopping the leak.

Mike,

Thanks man, I have been trying to stop the leaks with plumbers tape and it just disappears.  Did you buy the brass hi volume from CMW?  I am looking there next.

I really appreciate it!   :)

Mine did the same thing, just keep the stock petcock and rub the bar soap along the seams.  It's guarenteed to stop the seep.

yea, it came from CMW. I was going to  a K&N air filter, drilled exhaust, and upjet so I figured more gas flo wouldn't  hurt. The only prob with this tap is NO reserve...
yea; I've run out of gas; only once and a fellow biker helped me out!!

if that dos'nt work  try a two part gas tank patch . i fixed a leak in a gas line on a car by holding it around the hole in the line with my hand for 5 min while the thing was full of gas

there is a special sealing washer. It looks like a toothed washer with gasket on both side. Costs about $2.00 or 3.00 dollars.

As I mentioned elsewhere, i used the Permatex Gray Gasket former that CMW sells and it is working fine to seal the petcock into the tank.

I lost my reserve when I adapted a small ball valve to the tank, but plan to keep the tank topped up anyway.  One less bit of complexity to worry about.

The leak is FIXED!  Man the threads are weak though, looks like the soap did the trick too.
Took her out for an hour ride and now I am closing in on 300 miles, time for the 2 hour slog up I-5 to see Vince in Olympia.

Life is good.... :)                         today
