Only when trying to start it.  Otherwise it sounds normal when running.  Most definitely not the autodecomp.

Well, with a price of roughly $400.00 I will not be doing the repair.

Oh well,

Is that parts and labor?  What's the cost of the parts alone?

Eeek!! My sympathies to you. I am now on my third but both replacements were warranty jobs. I too am out of warranty now. So far the third one, (I'm told it is the uprated type), seems to be up to the job but at that price I'd certainly be kicking it, (probably in more ways than one!  ;D), in the event of future failure.

Last fall I had my bike at a dealer for this reason and it never showed symptoms while it was there.  I am going to contact him and see if we can work something out seeing as how the bike was in his shop for this reason and nothing happened, and since th warranty has worn out it is really showing the problem.  We shall see.

Yikes!  I thought it was a $100 part.  I don't even have a kicker so I hope mine holds.

$400 just for the sprag clutch?  Absurd.   >:(

RE should cover all of the UCE sprag problems for more than the usual 2-year warranty.

Okay, this is a sprag clutch for RE 500 maybe not a UCE.  How many dollars is that?  I know shipping is extra.  Maybe $150$  Just thinkin.  I would only buy from our host, much safer?

Like others said, the sprag clutch was redesigned to improve its durability.

Buying an unknown clutch runs the possible risk that one of the old style weaker clutches is the kind that is delivered if it is bought from a non- Royal Enfield parts source.

I agree about sourcing the right parts.  I looked at the link, that is a different part number from what Tim at CMW told me so I deffinitely will not be going that route.  Thank you though,

I agree. They won't, but they should. Upgrading the part is an admission that the first attempt wasn't up to the job and people who took the risk of buying the EFI early in its production have lost out. I appreciate that all manufacturers are free to develop and upgrade their product without free retro fitting to all past purchasers but in this instance the original was sub-standard.

I'd hold out for CMW to give you a new clutch. It was failing before your warranty was up and your dealer should advocate for you. Take it in to the dealer and say,"see this is what I tried to show you was happening before." You're sprag was failing before your warranty expired.
