Heh heh  -  that bit of silver foil from a packet of Players No 6 was always a good standby for a 20 amp fuse. Happy days - everybody smoked and pretty much anything could be fixed to get you home. I rode a Lambretta 30 miles home using my leg to work the throttle with my girlfriend's stocking and a bit of string tied from carb to front frame when the cable broke. She was on the back holding the side panel.
Simpler times....

The cable breaking was just (mis)fortune. This was 1966 - pre tights (I think you call them panty hose) era. What a shame when those things came along - as erotic as a potato!  If you can find a (non professional ) girl still wearing stockings, you're a lucky man!
