Hey guys.

I have a question about how the mirrors on my G5 should be adjusted, my old honda had huge 80's mirrors, but all i seem to see in the G5's is my arms, and I know what those look like

cars directly behind me are completely hidden

and tips on where the mirrors should be pointed

It is definitely a shock when you first look at the G5 mirror after riding a Honda which has big mirrors. The mirrors on G5 are ofcourse adjustable in all directions. I have put one small mirrors on one side of each stock mirror and now I can see everything - looking through 4 mirrors total :D - two small and two stock size.

I have adjusted right mirror to see the cars behind me in my lane, plus a little bit to the right.  My left mirror sees cars to my left, since I mostly stick to right lane. But if I ride differently, I adjust them while on the road.

Long and short of it is the stock G5's mirrors suck.
I put a set of the "bunny ears" off the older iron bikes on mine.

Put some bar end mirrors on it.

I had the same issue.  Bar-end mirrors offer a wider field of view without interference from your body.

However, mine are very close to the ends of the bars and I run low bars with a stock seating position...therefore I need to take my eyes off the road to see them.  Not a huge deal for me, but I'm a bicyclist and am more used to living without mirrors on the road anyhow.

The Napoleon-style mirrors on longer stalks may be better for most setups; mirrors like mine (small, round, right on end of bar) are probably best for those riding with their nose near the tank.

Someone here also just bent their mirror stalks to put the stock ones lower and more widely-spaced.  That's a good solution, too.

thanks guys, I don't really have the $ to drop on a new set of mirrors right now, after all, I just bought a motorcycle:) but the bending option suits me just fine, i"ll  have to see if any of my friends have a bench vise.

Any hints or things to look out for when bending? P

Probably should have added before that I'm a bit wider than average, you know, broad muscular shoulders, well insulated for modesty:)

thanks for the help

I got my bar-ends for $15 off Amazon.  Cheap, but as I'm in India, they're kind of like a sort of disposable insect antenna anyhow.  If one breaks off in traffic, I know I'm starting to get in the too-close range to the bus next to me.   ;D

I thought that is what the crash bars were for ?

Yeah, but I don't like crash bars.  They're on my current bike now, just as a selling point since everyone else wants them, and since the club (sorta) mandated them for our long rides.

My barends will tag another guy's rear view mirror occasionally. I got them set up so they will rotate back fairly easily. No problems. Doesn't even leave a mark. ;)
