I had read somewhere that California was in the process of requiring the same type of validity at inspection time and without a proper " stamp" a failure was in order...I suspect it has to do with enviormental and noise concerns..
I would think a OEM exhaust system would be grandfathered but the aftermarket stuff might be in jeopardy...
The law for the stamp comes in 2013 in CA. It obviously won't be retroactive since the earlier years never had the stamp. By law, it's illegal to modify any motor vehicle, but no one enforces it. I don't know how hard they are going to come down on anyone. There is no "Inspection" in CA, anyway. However if a cop stops you he could write you for a modified exhaust, but they can do that now anyway. It's a state that has too many people writing propositions for laws to justify their salary. They need to hire people to get rid of the invalid and unusable ones.
