Wildbill - Thanks for posting the pics, that black/chrome combo is great! My 'local' dealer has the maroon/chrome on the floor which is also nice, but after seeing your bike, I'm leaning toward that. Just more 'classic' looking. My other consideration is the B5 - I like the 19" wheels, and the significantly lower price. Local dealer has one on the floor. Still in middle of winter here, so plenty of time to decide, but looks like that black/chrome C5 is in the lead for me... :)

Good luck with yours!

Hi
Was in a bit of a rush but I plan to put up a few better photos shortly. I was also planing to take the bike for it's first run today. Unfortunately a work related job came up so that's put off till tomorrow.
I did get a few minutes to check out the Bosch spark plug. It was already a dirty black with only 15Kim so i plan to buy the NGK BPR6ES  spark plug and install prior to the first ride

That sooty plug is a bit of a concern, do you know if this is a common trait? I take it your bike is still 100% stock, one would be led to think it has too cold of a plug installed from the factory. I'm a newbie here but have pored over this forum for some time and don't recall reading of problems in this area. ??? Anyone else?

I'd run it all nice and warmed up and give it a good run before judging the plug color too much.  If the 15km were put on the bike in 15- 1km rides at the dealer then there wouldn't be enough heat to burn off the carbon.

any  thoughts on warming up the motor prior to the first run or just kick it over and ride off

Give it 30 seconds to get some oil moving and head out!  It is recommended in the manual that you don't ride too long and let it cool completely before the next ride.

Congrats, Bill! Black & chrome is the way to go indeed.
Don't warm it up idling. It'll not gain temperature fast enough this way and therefore run with cold oil longer than necessary. Just ride off into the sunset and check all nuts and bolts after the maiden voyage. Check the wheel alignment too, the C5 is a bit picky here. Have fun, best regards.

And double check your tire pressures: about 18# front, 24-26# rear.  This may seem low but if you run at 30# or above like most other bikes the C5 tends to handle quite poorly.

run 95 octane

Even then my B5 fouls up if I do too many 10 km trips without a good run.

Remember that the Aussie Royal Enfield Club  ( http://recoainc.com/ ) offer a years free membership to owners of new Enfields.

They are a grumpy bunch that spend  a lot of their time complaining about the unreliability of Electra's but it's still worth joining :D

:( i didnt know about this

Wildbill,
Thanks for posting the additional pics - some nice shots there! I'm really liking that black/chrome combo, looks the part of the 'traditional British thumper' .
