Just ordered a couple reproduction vintage mufflers that go on an old H-D VL and one that goes on an oldschool Indian Chief :-) this should be both visually and audially interesting!! More to follow in the next few weeks!!!

cant wait to see them on your bike. Just by the pictures, my favorite would be the Indian muffler. Very reasonable prices as well. Thanks for the post, I'll be watching for the pics

Love it!  Super old school!  Looks a lot like he Flash Gordon muffler without the fishtail.  Is this going on a C5 or G5?

It'll be going on my C5.  I love the upsweep to the tail pipe!! It's so old school and such a departure from the norm.  The chief muffle will be interesting and I need to order that section of upturned exhaust pipe to get it to sit right.  Only down side I see to the chief is that I wont be able to hrow bags on her unless I work up a heat shield.... I think.

These got me thinking that the C5 has too much chrome for its appsrent age.  Maybe I should black out the entire exhaust and the wheels.  Keep the aluminum but black out most of the chrome.   The first year Kawasaki Drifter Was like that, the whole front end was black.  Hmmm......

Too much chrome?  Only things on it that are chrome are the exhaust, headlight bezel and the handle bars oh and te wheels n spokes. Everything else is polished aluminum.

Exactly.  I'm just thinking of blacing out the exhaust and wheels.  Doing the wheels really changes the look of any bike  Maybe I'm just looking at too many bobber sites lately.

Wheels and exhaust generally were chrome.

If you google up images of older enfields (say a J2) the bits that stand out on a UCE bike as "too shiny" for a brit bike are the alloy engine barrel and heads (used to be cast iron and painted black) and the chrome indicators and mirrors (which tended to be non existent on older bikes).

I found a place that sells the H-D VL muffler  in black... I'll dig up the link for you, though debrix might have it as well..

Bobbers are cool.  There is no denying it.  My problem is that every last person out there seems to be making the same damn bobber.  I am a fan of the true old school bobber where the paint is still intact and it isn't all matte black.  Y'know, knocking the pins out of the hinged rear fender and bolting on a tail light to what is left.

That said, I don't think, IMHO, that the Royal Enfield frame doesn't lend itself to the bobber look.  It's a short bike as it is  (at least visually anyhow) and the swing arm frame isnot visually conducive to the true bobber look.

I think you could make a nice bobber.  Take off the fenders, plate and tail light to the side of the swing arm,  maybe make a smal box for the electronics and get a pod type filter.  Very minimal but wouldn't have the same look as you'd get from an American bike.
