I just read about a reprogrammable ECU from an Indian company named "Race Dynamics", wich sounds pretty appealing to me. They price tag is 16000 rupies, that is about 230€ or 300USD. See here:

Interesting or not? Would it replace a Power Commander or rather amend it?

Sounds like they still have some work to do. I definitely need the barometric sensor which apparently isn't part of their current offering. and they are still developing one for the O2 sensing versions of the RE. Interesting, though.
Have to wait and see on that one.

With the programmable version there would be no need for the PC.  If you got the base, non-programmable version you might be able to use it in addition too, but the PC alone could provide all the same functionality so there would be no need.  Pretty much anyway, it does say it can be used with the O2 sensor and I think the PC discards it outright.  If you wanted to keep it this may be a better alternative.  Also, it's not clear if this replaces the ECU or piggy backs on it like the PC.  If it's a piggy back unit I don't think you could run two together.

Does anyone who knows about these things tell me if this has been improved? Just looking at all the options.

I believe that it is a stand alone unit - in other words you do not use it with a PC or any other unit. We have looked at them for a while, but have elected not to carry them. Not being critical about the product, but am concerned about the sophistication of the programming and support. Again not being critical just sayin.... where we are coming from. We are adding the US product that has been mentioned on the forum recently though. Stay tuned

I know only that I've contacted this company over a year ago and would never get a reply.

I own a RaceDynamics ECU.
It is currently at Chumma's place.

I have never installed it, but I bought one a few years ago as a way to get adjustable fuel/air and change the rev limiter, before the Power Commanders came out.

I still have it, and I may play around with it when I start needing higher rpms for a future project that I have in mind for the GT.

What I really wanted is the code and an interface to the stock ecu. So if someone from RE reads here please P.M. the code.  ;D

It will be most interesting if you do, to see what the outcome is.
Looks like my one bike rule may be broken, I've got an itch and the price of gt's are coming down, and my Himalayan fund is burning a hole. ::)

I contacted them a few years back.... when the only thing available was the PC-V WITHOUT rev extend or ignition timing adjustment.   They did reply at the time, and claimed that they THINK that they could extend the stock rev limiter. But that I may have to grind one of the nodules off of the rotor  :o  THAT sounded ridiculous to me, what with what was already out there.... I thought they were kidding actually. :o  Shortly after that, the first PC-V came out and became available in the US.   Haven't looked back... ;)
